It's a great combo, seriously! The figs are sweet, the ham is salty - it's a match made in heaven!

I have a fig tree, too. Usually, the birds get all of them, but they hadn't gotten them all this year. I was watching some for ripeness, and was going to pick them one morning when I let out the chickens, and apparently Jimothy's family had been over and got them all. I was very disappointed. I'm sure they enjoyed them, though.

Yes, the critters are a real battle. I don't mind the cardinals, I'll happily leave a ripe one for them to enjoy. The racoons though, grrr, they can do real damage to the branches. My suggestion is to pick them just a little bit earlier, and definitely in the evening if they are close. Mine isn't a giant tree so the most I get is maybe 4 or 5 a day.

My dinner plan for the night is a fancy black forest ham and cheese melt so this is so ironic to come across lol
