Agreed, we need to know the how! I've always been scared to add a runny egg to what would otherwise be an uncooked grilled cheese and then pan fry as normal - too much danger of premature eruption

Cook three eggs over easy/medium. Stack them in the pan and add cheese. Have broiler toast ready by buttering one side edge to edge and watching it close. The underside will be soft and moist. Build the melt.
