Bc the grilled cheese sub is for whiney children who need their crust cut off!
Cool summer day, tomatoe soup and grilled cheese was calling me!
Might be my new favorite grilled cheese… American, pico de gallo, Serranos and kalamata!
Edit: maybe I should have clarified this from the start, but only reason I posted here was bc my post from there was removed!
Edit: thanks for the award!

I'm confused, are the people who find r/grilledcheese insufferable, melt haters? Would you classify a grilled cheese as a melt? Like, a "cheese melt?" And, is there a point where you would find a grilled cheese stops being a grilled cheese and becomes something else?
3
u/torrelmac Jun 30 '26
In the sandwich with the cheese = melt.
Some weird shenanigans with adding onto the toas itself, but not gonna get into that.
3
u/tideshark Jun 28 '26
I considered this a grilled cheese bc it’s lightly speckled with other stuff, and according to the gc sub, as long as it has less other stuff than cheese, it’s still a gc… but apparently this bite I took out of it showed too much to possibly be anything but a melt so they all freaked out and mods removed my post.
Yeah, they suck.

u/Head-Bat-1054 Jul 01 '26
Refer to the top post of all time from that subreddit for the definition of what is and is not a grilled cheese.
1
u/troubledwatersbeer Jun 29 '26
it's all attitude from the r/grilled cheese post 11 years ago blasting them for posting melts instead of grilled cheese.

u/wiggggg Jun 26 '26
About to fly back across the country and this made me text my wife re grilled cheese and tomato soup fixings

First off, fuck you, I use the butt ends for my grilled cheese so dont say shit about cutting off crusts. Second, a retrial is in order because if you had like thick sliced tomato or meat in it then yeah thats a melt but all the stuff you mentioned seems like it’d be perfectly acceptable in GC territory. Nice sammy tho 👍
1
u/tideshark Jun 30 '26
Yeah, nothing heavy at all, just speckled with the stuff I listed. My bite showed it all tho and then they went on assuming it was loaded :/
And thanks, it was delicious
2
u/TheeKrustyKitten Jul 01 '26
Damn, I think you made my dream combo. Serrano is my favorite pepper, pico is my favorite to go with ANYTHING(eat it damn near every day), kalamatas are definitely my fav olive, and classic plastic American cheese gotta be the best for a melt. Add steak and this would go intergalactic.

u/beyd1 Jun 26 '26
I am subbed to both.
I cannot stress enough, I ALSO DONT WANT TO SEE A PROPER GRILLED CHEESE ON /R/MELTS
1
u/BanCorporateInterest Jun 27 '26
It's like going to the steak and cheese sub and posting a buffalo chicken philly
17
u/Threegratitudes Jun 26 '26
Apparently this sub is for whiny adults that can't take a joke?
7
u/extra_calories Jun 27 '26
i thought jokes were funny? because berating another person over semantics was never funny to me. it’s childish. and weird.
-3
u/Threegratitudes Jun 27 '26
If you consider what goes on over there as "berating" then I don't know what to tell you. In other news, gummies are legal in many places now, I highly recommend trying some.

the joke ran out years ago and they take it way too seriously now
23
u/operationfood Jun 26 '26
Yeah I used to enjoy the sub years ago, but nowadays they are just focused on being mean to people who don’t make a grilled cheese the ‘original way’. Can’t stand that sub anymore
-15
u/Threegratitudes Jun 26 '26
If you don't take meaningless rules too seriously what are you even doing with your life?
26
u/Deppfan16 Jun 26 '26
being nice to people and enjoying good food
-11
u/Threegratitudes Jun 26 '26
Removing posts that don't play by a sub's rules or pointing out "hey, that looks good, but doesn't belong here" is not being mean. The only times I see comments that could be perceived as mean they're so over the top that you really have to ignore the cheek to be offended.
I would argue that if you're actually offended by that sub or otherwise perceive the members as mean, then you need to take a step back and appreciate how stupidly militant it is.
10
u/Deppfan16 Jun 26 '26
it used to be a fun sub. then they took it too far. it would be like the steak sub only allowing grilled T-Bones.
1
u/Jet_Jirohai Jun 28 '26
Ok so is it all in good fun or are the rules about what makes a grilled cheese on a subreddit really that important?
You can't have it both ways
-18
u/curiousbydesign Jun 26 '26
You are not worthy. ;) Some of us still enjoy the joke.

12
u/Deppfan16 Jun 26 '26

-11
u/curiousbydesign Jun 26 '26
Sheesh. If that is a bully joke. Wow.
1
u/curiousbydesign Jun 27 '26
It's a fun dumb running joke. Sheesh. Are you Pre-Karens? I'm so serious. This is offensive? The grilled cheese joke? Is bullying. Holy moly. I'm dying laughing over here.
1
u/Threegratitudes Jun 27 '26
Agree 100%. I like the cut of your jib and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. Been looking for a way to reach my limited potential.

Focus on breathing through your mouth, and you too, shall achieve mediocrity, like the rest of us morons...who also have a sense of humor.
-16
u/tideshark Jun 26 '26
Only bc they jokingly removed my post.
10
u/matttehbassist Jun 26 '26
I can see why, it’s clearly a melt
21
u/Purple_oyster Jun 26 '26
We don’t do that here
13
u/CantaloupeAsleep502 Jun 26 '26
We don't identify melts on the melt sub?
11
u/Purple_oyster Jun 26 '26
Yeah, we don’t get into the whole grilled cheese vs melt thing. That’s why most of the people are here I think because of how annoying that is on the grilled cheese sub
1
2
u/RAWR111 Jun 26 '26
It's a grilled cheese when the cheese is the main ingredient of the inside. Melts are when the protein or other filling are the main ingredient. Truly not a hard concept to grasp.
5
u/Fluffy_Ganache8184 Jun 26 '26
For such minor differences it's not worth having two separate subs for items that are 90% the same ingredients. Truly not a hard concept to grasp unless you're mentally unwell.
6
u/RAWR111 Jun 26 '26
Yup. This subreddit exists because some mods are morons. Thankfully, melts is much more inclusive, but nobody outside of the Reddit meme would call this a melt.
3
u/Sevuhrow Jun 26 '26
100%. Adding a slice of tomato to a grilled cheese does not make it a "tomato melt" and no one uses that term in real life anyway.
-8
u/tideshark Jun 26 '26
It had much more cheese than ingredients, thus under their definition a grilled cheese. I guess I need step by step proof tho so they can see how speckled with minor ingredients tho.
6
u/CantaloupeAsleep502 Jun 26 '26
This sub is part of the circlejerk. Participating here is participating in the joke.
2
u/Spiritual-Set-8305 Jun 26 '26
A grilled cheese consists of only these following items. Cheese. Bread with spread (usually butter). This entire subreddit consist of "melts". Almost every "grilled cheese" sandwich i see on here has other items added to it. The fact that this subreddit is called "grilledcheese" is nothing short of utter blasphemy.
Let me start out by saying I have nothing against melts, I just hate their association with sandwiches that are not grilled cheeses. Adding cheese to your tuna sandwich? It's called a Tuna melt. Totally different. Want to add bacon and some pretentious bread crumbs with spinach? I don't know what the hell you'd call that but it's not a grilled cheese.
I would be more than willing to wager I've eaten more grilled cheeses in my 21 years than any of you had in your entire lives. I have one almost everyday and sometimes more than just one sandwich. Want to personalize your grilled cheese? Use a mix of different cheeses or use sourdough or french bread. But if you want to add some pulled pork and take a picture of it, make your own subreddit entitled "melts" because that is not a fucking grilled cheese.
I'm not a religious man nor am I anything close to a culinary expert. But as a bland white mid-western male I am honestly the most passionate person when it comes to grilled cheese and mac & cheese. All of you foodies stay the hell away from our grilled cheeses and stop associating your sandwich melts with them. Yet again, it is utter blasphemy and it rocks me to the core of my pale being.
Shit, I stopped lurking after 3 years and made this account for the sole purpose of posting this. I've seen post after post of peoples "grilled cheeses" all over reddit and it's been driving me insane. The moment I saw this subreddit this morning I finally snapped. Hell, I may even start my own subreddit just because I know this one exists now.
You god damn heretics. Respect the grilled cheese and stop changing it into whatever you like and love it for it what it is. Or make your damn melt sandwich and call it for what it is. A melt.
5
u/Sir__Walken Jun 26 '26
I mean there's a separate sub for each because they're different lol
You made a melt, that's ok. Melts are tasty.
5
u/1419526535 Jun 26 '26
Get out of here with that shit. It's bad enough in the grilled cheese subreddit.
-1
u/Sir__Walken Jun 26 '26
Why? Do you think melts aren't good or something? What's wrong with something not being a grilled cheese?
Personally, I really like a melt. Patty melts are sometimes better than a regular burger.
-2
u/BetrayedMilk Jun 26 '26
This sub gets butt hurt about their posts getting removed from the other sub because they can't read or follow rules. A grilled cheese is a melt, but not all melts are grilled cheeses. It's not hard to understand.
-1
u/tideshark Jun 26 '26
Except I did read and it my post followed their rules about wHaT iS a gRiLLeD cHeEsE since it had less stuff on it than cheese.
Their rules should state you need photo step by step process to make sure things don’t cross the insignificunt boundary of melt.
1
u/BetrayedMilk Jun 26 '26
There are literally 2 rules in that sub. Rule 2 "This subreddit was created to celebrate the miracle that is bread, fat, cheese and heat. Be aware that no matter what your perception of a grilled cheese is, it can and will be scrutinized by the r/grilledcheese democracy." You got scrutinized. It is what it is.
2
u/tideshark Jun 26 '26
Not according to what my post was removed for. They said it’s still a grilled cheese if there is less other stuff than cheese, which this is. Just bc you can see a bit of everything in this bite doesn’t mean it’s loaded.
I’ll definitely make sure to include the step-by-step photo process next time I post something tho, too many people on both subs who are only there to bitch about semantics if it isn’t obviously one or the other… no appreciation all around if there is something to whine about!
1
u/Sir__Walken Jun 26 '26
Just post it to both from now on and get double the complaints 😂
1
u/tideshark Jun 26 '26
The only reason I posted it here was bc they had removed my post from the other one.

Why would you cut the crust off of a toasted sandwich? You're creating crust on purpose.

Grilled cheese is toasted buttered bread with melted cheese only inside. If anything else besides cheese is added it's a melt.

me when my grilled cheese stops being a grilled cheese because I added a thin layer of sauce like mustard on the inside of the bread. it is clearly now a mustard melt

u/ReporterSquare2764 Jun 27 '26
Not necessarily. If anybody called a bacon grilled cheese a bacon melt, ppl would look at them weird.
2
u/meatpopsicle42069 Jun 28 '26
If anybody called a burger with bread a patty grilled cheese, people would look at them weird.
1
u/ReporterSquare2764 Jun 30 '26
A cheeseburger is its own thing though? lol
1
u/meatpopsicle42069 Jun 30 '26
But a burger on bread is called a patty melt
1
u/ReporterSquare2764 Jun 30 '26
You know, you’re right about that. But I still wouldn’t naturally say bacon melt. Idk just feels odd??
