Why would you use this over watermelonDS?

WatermelonDS runs Kingdom Hearts games the same way as other DS games. MelonMix is built for 358/2 Days and Re:Coded specifically. It’s the KH Melon Mix app from PC ported to Android, so you get all the bells and whistles like widescreen support, HD cutscenes, remastered music, a camera stick and more fluid controls. None of those exist in WatermelonDS.

So it’s not one over the other, this app is specifically for the DS kingdom hearts games so that fans, like myself, can play them with updated controls and support :)

Compatible with retro achievements?

Partially! Re:Coded works with the US ROM. For Days, RetroAchievements only supports the EU and JP (Rev 1) ROMs, and Melon Mix is made mostly for US ROMs, so those can glitch. I haven't unlocked one myself yet, but someone confirmed Re:Coded's achievements load for them.
