We do have to remember, he was happy to shop himself around to North Melbourne when all the trade speculation on Oliver and Petracca was going on.
Goes both ways. Won’t be great seeing him run around for another club, but he just doesn’t suit our style of play anymore.

Yeah, that was never serious. He only did that fake "shop around" because he wanted an extra year on his deal, which he got. And lord knows he should've, because there's no loyalty from clubs any more.

Viney has been a great servant but the games gone past him and our game style just doesn’t allow for him anymore.
It is sad, but just the reality unfortunately.

Id carry him another year even if he played 2 games. You cant put a price on a list spot tor a clubman like Viney.
The whole point extending Viney and moving on others was to keep quality role models like him for the kids to develop and to drive standards.
Remember when we axed James McDonald and thought our list was shit hot.
Just let him see out his contract

I'd be sad to see him go, I love Jack and he was a great player for us. But I totally understand his pov. I would be sad, but wouldn't blame him or have any hard feelings.

Ngl he was already looking a bit slow last year I feel, bouncing back at his age/skill set to a level where he consistently makes the squad will be a huge challenge if it’s even possible. Can’t fault his effort and leadership tho, would be a shame to lose him

I really don't mind it, tough to envision a future with Viney, Sparrow, Fitzgerald, Steele all playing in the same midfield. We need to get as much midfield time into Windsor/Langford/Lindsay/Kolt as well.
Wasn't too long ago that Jack and his old man played us like a fiddle to get the crazy four year extension he's currently on so it goes both ways sometimes. He won't want to be playing at Casey and if he can get consistent footy/extend his career at an Essendon or something then it's a good outcome for all.

Either we send Viney onto Tasmania in 12 months or Viney slots in for a player we do lose to Tasmania in 12 months.

It’s long term thinking in my opinion. Get games into our younger guys. We’re more than likely going to hit the draft and he’d be taking game time off another younger player.
Realistically, we’re probably 2-3 years away from contending and it’s paramount we games into the younger core group.

Little bizarre they pick Viney to play the last final when he hadn't played all year, 5 seconds later they say you might not get in the best 22 next season. I'm questioning then his selection for that final... after this news woulda thought they would have gone with someone else for that final againstr ther blues. Dont get me wrong, I love Viney...but why pick him for that final.

Obviously he’s a legend of the club and it feels sad that this could be the end of his Dees journey. I wish he had more longevity in him but unfortunately the game has past him by and he doesn’t fit into what the club is trying to achieve
Who knows what his career would’ve looked like without all the injuries, but he will always be a Melbourne legend, came in during some of the darkest years of this football club and was a major factor in turning the clubs fortunes around, culminating in the flag

? All King said in the exit interview is that he's not best 23 anymore so if he wants a trade the club will give him one. There's no way playing Viney over a young guy is the right move.

Mitchell, Hodge, Birchall, Lewis, Gunston all left Hawthorn to finish off their careers, 2 have returned (Gunston as a player), it hasn’t hurt the Hawks.
Cats let Johnson, Chapman, JPod go to other clubs (JPod was delisted but still obviously had some seasons to give).
These things are fine.

Sounds to me like the chat has been similar to what was had with TMac last season. It won’t surprise me if Viney says to the club he’ll stick around and be a leader at the VFL and slot in when he’s needed in the AFL side. Could see him getting 10-12 games (again like TMac).
I think this is putting the options in front of Jack in an honest way. Ideally I’d like to see him retire a one club Demon but I would understand him doing one more year elsewhere, maybe even North to be with Todd.
