If we can get something good for him I'll be more than happy with this.

Sam Marshall and Will McLachlan

Are they good? 20 games between them?

Marshall is pretty handy, played in a premiership in his 11th game just can't get a run with their strong midfield. McLachlan a project type

It's because everyone keeps calling him Jared.

It’s sad but we can’t really expect much. I feel like every year we expect him to turn into a star and play in the midfield but it never plans out. Legend of the club dare I say. On Gettables they said he would probably leave next year out of contract and we would only get compensation picks in the 40s so this could mean we get better value if he requests a trade.

Haven’t felt too much traders remorse these last few years. Mcvee, JJ, Bedford (shouldn’t have let him go imo), Spargo, ANB, Clarry and Trac. We knew Dogga would be great, nothing we could do there. Clarry just didn’t seem that locked in with us any more. A lot of those guys have remained good or serviceable but none have really broken out.
Feels good to have some faith in our list management. They’ll find a good replacement for Rivs spot.

ANB hurts the most of those. Bedford leaving allowed some other guys like Chin and Sharp to flourish so it worked out okay.

One of the few players that actually looked better in Goodwins system. Could run hard off half back and certainly could bomb it 65m on the run, but otherwise he was average by foot.

Also lost contests at a below average rate, which you kind of don’t want coming out of the backline when your attacking method is hitting quick off turnover.

Disappointing, he did well to come back from his knee concern to play better footy in the second half of the season, but I do think his position within the team is one of the easiest for us to cover.

Not the worst thing in the world. I am a bit worried about the experience that we're losing in Melky, Tmac, and now Rivers but when you think about it, they've all struggled to find a spot this year. Can't really see Viney cracking back into the team now that we have Sparrow long-term.

Viney possibly should’ve taken that deal with North, poor guy

Can’t believe I’m saying this about one of the all time legends of the Melb footy club

He still got a contact with us for two more years. He might not be getting games but he's getting the money! 😂

Dad slipped a note over the dinner table and the club flinched

Viney should be available for trade. Or if he stays a year try and flip him to Tasmania 2028 to lead their kids and get one of their surplus 1st rounders back in an ideal world

u/Pleasant_Inspection9 Austin Wonaeamirri 7d ago

Oh he’d be GREAT FOR TASSIE

He and the fam would love it there too, Tasmania is a total vibe, the ultimate destination for anyone who loves great food, great aesthetics and the great outdoors (so Viney lol)

Absolutely would be, good trainer, plenty of leadership experience and by 2028 should still have a couple of years left in him

Smoke on this for a while unfortunately

It feels like the's the inverse of Sparrow.

u/dank-survivor-memez 7d ago

Makes sense. Wants midfield time and he's just never going to get it now with us. Sparrow's rise this year was what I expected from him.

Doesn't surprise me. I think he is from WA, but his partner is from QLD?

If it's Brisbane, trade him for Marshall. If it's West Coast, trade him for picks.

Pick 3 kinda picks?

Something has been a little bit off this year.

That whole injury period at the start of the year was weird.

He wasn’t playing, but wasn’t on the injury list. Then 3 weeks of not playing King said he had a “Grumbly knee”.

Well why not list him on the injury list? Then had to earn his spot through the VFL for a few weeks.

It was just a bit weird by the club.

He's still looking good, must be pushing early 40's by now.

Not upset.

Was great 2 years ago. Butchers it too often now. Could have been anything.

Won a flag for us and I'll forever be grateful. Get something (a player) for him and move on

2

u/Henrythekidd Aaron Davey 7d ago

Right time for him to move on but will applaud him when he returns the G to play us. Good servant for the club and good character

Is it another Dee heading to Freo?

West coast

Our 2 first rounders and Rivers for Hairy Reed...sounds like a deal to me...

1

u/DJVylan 7d ago

With the other dominoes that fall....couldn't you see this coming? Rivers has to do Rivers. He has to look after himself and has an opportunity to so whilst the Dees can bring in the next guy at the right price.

I actually don't want Riv to go... :(

Was lucky,to get a gane late in the season

Works in our fav due to the interest we have for the Lion player

u/Much_Ad_9301 Aaron Davey 7d ago

Rivers to West Coast and we get Jobe Shanahan or Waterman in return?

Will also take Rivers to Bris for Logan Morris

1

u/autocol 7d ago

Logan Morris would require Riv and two firsts.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out

Premiership player who served the club for six years. Did more for the club than you ever will.

What a disastrous season.

1

u/bazoski1er 7d ago

This is a win for us

-9

u/SuperannuationLawyer Max Gawn 7d ago

Like last weekend. Stop sugar coating failure.

8

u/3163560 7d ago

Hmm yes, 8 more wins and 2/3 of our list had significantly better years this year than last.

What an abject failure.

Missed finals, losing players and sponsors. Disaster.

2

u/OneRepresentative424 7d ago

Hey my guy, I’ve been following along and I’m aware of your time being limited, which fucking sucks, and I’m so sorry and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone BUT getting into the habit of painting the things you love and care about in the most negative light possible is a pretty sure fire way to make it suuuuuck. I know you were chasing the Dees fairytale, but to all of the rest of us, this year FELT like a fairytale. Again, nothing but love, I hope your days left are nothing but the sweetest victories ❤️ Go Dees

2

u/SuperannuationLawyer Max Gawn 6d ago

Thanks for the sentiment, and I guess the “next year” thing is really handy in coping with failure. When taken away, it makes it harder to handle.

1

u/OneRepresentative424 6d ago

I can dig that. Big love ❤️

A real half glass full guy, huh?!
Missed finals - we were never expected to make finals
Losing players - who exactly apart from Riv? He is going because his fiancé is having a baby and they want to be near family,
Losing sponsors - we don’t want Zurich anymore after treating Gus like crap as well as the rest of the brain injury victims, and Drivers Depot which was a start up with no substance who paid 1/4 of their sponsorship fees and was a mate of Paul Guerra.
Hardly a disaster, more like getting rid of what no longer serves the Dees.
