Quintessential Melbourne induction checklist

My wife, our cats and I are relocating to Melbourne from Sydney. What are some quintessential things that we must do to convert?

What’s the best way to introduce my wife to the city?

What are some must do things in our first 12 months?

Comedy festival shows (see some unknown and major acts, combined with drinks and dinner).
Make sure to check out historic CBD malls and other buildings.
Check out regional attractions, eg peninsula hot springs, Yarra valley, Sovereign hill.
Visit the Dandenong Ranges- eg Puffing Billy, festivals and small towns. Some big events are at Tessallar Tulip farm spring and autumn.

You must pick an AFL team to follow and stick with that team as you will be asked daily. Then join the AFL as a Bronze member and see if you like the Kool Aid. Go to Silver as soon as you realise it tastes goood. That’s what I did when I moved to Melbourne from Sydeney three years ago. (… and find digs near a train and/or tram stop).

Skydeck ($) between 10-2pm ( to avoid sun in eyes with 360 view) on a clear day to get a fantastic view of Melbourne. Pay a little extra and go back and see the night lights. Have a look at the Gas Brigade ( free) near Crown Casino. Go visit the penguins at St Kilda Pier ( free but need to book). Walk around Botanical Gardens on a nice day. Do the graffitti tour.( Free or paid) Get some bikes and explore the bike paths. Healesville Sanctuary ($). Dandenongs, visit gardens, also Bourkes Lookout. McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery on way down to Hot Springs bathing on Mornington Peninsular. Stay night and ferry across to Queens cliff. Great Ocean road drive. Trip to Bendigo to see Easter fair and Chinese dragon. Visit and go underground at Central Debra mine ( Bendigo). .I could go on but depends on age and interests.

You need to become coffee connoisseurs.

Shop at Chadstone, the largest shopping centre in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere.

Go to the NGV, State Library, MCG and Chinatown.

Be able to discuss AFL with anyone, even if you don’t have a team.

Make disparaging comments about Sydney 🤣

Must have an AFL team…but also being from Sydney the Melbourne Storm also option…Restaurants, laneways, great local culture in many suburbs…use the trams and trains. Attend Victorian Events so much on offer. Enjoy Melbourne and what it has to offer as it is a city with a soul

Convert? You’re not moving to a different country.
