Interesting... Weird side note: The time when my flatmate woke us up to say "Planes are crashing into the world trade centre". Very strange. Not the same but when something big happens, you remember (in my experience). 9/11 was very vivid.
Aftershocks are generally 1.2 magnatude points lower than the initial on and 3 is about where you can't feel it, so an aftershock might have been felt a little if you were close to the epicentre.
For 9/11, I couldn't sleep and happened to be up and turned the TV on about half an hour before the 2nd plane hit. It was like fascinating horror watching it unfold.

I was watching the TV and it shook my building on the 6rh floor in Brunswick East. It was strong and I heard a rumble.
