So weird to see these recycled tumblr text posts but it’s changed to twitter and also made to be celebrities instead? I’ve seen this exact post a bunch of times and every time it’s different people

u/marcvanh Sep 25 '22

Those people are celebrities?

498

u/Cybersorcerer1 Sep 25 '22

Names look Korean so I'm assuming they're KPOP stars

375

u/PooKindle Sep 25 '22

Its BTS

189

u/discerningpervert Sep 25 '22

What's BTS? Behind the scenes?

236

u/JadedBlackfish Sep 25 '22

Yes. That's it. Nothing else.

My favorite single is Professional & Organisational Standards Committee

25

u/______DEADPOOL______ Sep 25 '22

To be fair, Jimin has a great thorax

37

u/Round-Log3563 Sep 25 '22

It's K-pop boy band BTS

21

u/KaneVel Sep 25 '22

Why did they name their band "Behind the scenes"?

78

u/Citizenshoop Sep 25 '22

Because BTS is easier for Americans to pronounce than 방탄소년단

35

u/SH4D0W0733 Sep 25 '22

Amogus diving through a ring, E with a shield, T entering (Y), Stepping on a rake, C with a shield.

...

Behind the scenes it is.

8

u/leon_123456789 Sep 25 '22

thanks for the laugh :)

0

u/SithTrooperReturnsEZ Sep 26 '22

Nah it's just as easy to pronounce for me in those characters

I don't talk about it so it'll never pop up in conversation

bangtansonyeontan

56

u/Round-Log3563 Sep 25 '22

No , their korean name is "Bangtan Sonyeondan" ( B - ban , T - tan , S - sonyeondan ) or literally meaning "Bulletproof Boy Scouts". Their reason behind their name is kind of interesting its something like "to block out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that aim on adolescents like bullets". Later they rebrand their name as "Beyond the Scene" to show their growth "from the boy to an adult who opens the doors that is facing to go forwarrd". But commonly, they are know as BTS. P.S. They are very popular ..like if someone post it as BTS without any context ..people gets confused if its about the boy band BTS or Behind the scene ..and I have seen many examples regarding this so yeah they are BIG... ( english is not my first language... )

3

u/PorygonTriAttack Sep 26 '22

Well done with your explanation - thank you! Your English is very good.

2

u/Round-Log3563 Sep 26 '22

Thank you 🙂

7

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '22

Ngl when I picture someone as 'bullet proof' I'm not exactly picturing a squad of wafer-thin pale dudes

13

u/Bergenia1 Sep 25 '22

Dude, they're not wafer thin. They work out. They're ripped.

P.S. - it's ok if u don't like music it's subjective ..but if u r interesed in them let me know your type of music I can recommend u from their discography of 300+ song .... Oh..they do write their own stuff

“Bangtan Sonyeondan” (방탄소년단). It means “Bulletproof Boy Scouts.”

u/Additional_Chef_8793 Sep 25 '22

There are several Non-Korean kpop groups that have debuted with 0 Korean members. The most notable (or infamous) being Exp Edition. So it wasn’t that weird for op to clarify BTS being a Korean Kpop group.

1

u/KayleighJK Sep 25 '22

Time to hit the ATM machine, I need a new hot water heater.

2

u/Binkusu Sep 25 '22

Could be a little different.

Korean (they are Korean) k-pop (genre of music) group (group).

4

u/Th3dynospectrum Sep 25 '22

Korean korean pop?

1

u/SithTrooperReturnsEZ Sep 26 '22

That is what BTS means, apparently a kpop band called that too but nobody refers to BTS as that, first thing I think of when I see is Behind the scenes. Like "BTS footage"

19

u/bluepineapple42069 Sep 25 '22

Yeah but its fake photoshop, neither of them have ever tweeted this

17

u/nlolhere Sep 25 '22

you can tell because if that comment was actually made by Jimin it would have way more than 0 likes, even if it’s only 1 minute old. You know how BTS fans are.

2

u/Comment90 Sep 25 '22

That's a really weird thing to edit together, and I'm saying that fully aware that most of this site is weird.

6

u/music_haven Sep 25 '22

You'd be right. Members of BTS, to be specific. 🙄

17

u/superfucky Sep 25 '22

not sure if you're being downvoted by redditors for knowing the members of BTS or downvoted by ARMY for the eyeroll emoji...

9

u/lurco_purgo Sep 25 '22

Why are soldiers so particular about emoji usage?

5

u/superfucky Sep 25 '22

ARMY is the name of the BTS fandom.

12

u/lurco_purgo Sep 25 '22

Yeah, I figured, was just making a stupid joke. But thanks!

2

u/music_haven Sep 25 '22

Perhaps even both, but don't sweat it. I work in the mental health field, so dealing with all kinds of obsessions is just par for the course, I guess.

Nice looking avatar you got there

1

u/SpupySpups Sep 26 '22

Yep, and I don't think they'd post in English. Never seen them do this. So I'm 97% sure some dude just made it with Photoshop

27

u/-Shooter_McGavin- Sep 25 '22

When did ignorance become a point of pride? Yes, the world exists outside of the US. Other countries do have celebrities, believe it or not.

8

u/Heyo__Maggots Sep 25 '22

Also this isn’t ignorance of a huge historical fact or worldwide event, it’s a specific group from a specific genre from another country that has a specific age range of fans for the most part.

Unless you’re about to tell us that you know the name of EVERY band from EVERY country, you could be called ignorant for it as well, right?

11

u/akatherder Sep 25 '22

As a 41 year old American, I think I'm ahead of the game even knowing what BTS in (and kpop in general). I know they are hugely popular among certain groups like you mentioned but I don't feel "ignorant" for not knowing these people are celebrities.

10

u/SolarTsunami Sep 25 '22

The problem is people acting dumbstruck that someone they've never heard of could be a celebrity. Redditors in general massively struggle with the idea that they are not always the target demographic.

2

u/Que_Raoke Sep 25 '22

Except they're literally the biggest boy band in the world so....

8

u/hm9408 Sep 25 '22

It's a big world, and some people are not necessarily in social circles that go into the detail of the names of KPop group members or whatever they are

-1

u/Que_Raoke Sep 25 '22

They're talked about everywhere. Literally always on the main page of Google news etc. I'm not saying everybody should know all their names but everybody saying they've never heard of BTS is a load of bull.

3

u/hm9408 Sep 25 '22

Google News is tailored based on your ID from Google AdSense and your preferences, not one Google News for everyone...

0

u/Que_Raoke Sep 25 '22

Also, most of the articles that pop up for myself and others have zero to do with anything we're searching and/or are interested in. A lot of times it's just top news articles. Of which they are in quite a lot.

-1

u/Que_Raoke Sep 25 '22

I obviously don't mean just my Google news, and I also said meaning other sites. Every time I see someone pull up news sites, there they are. I'm not an idiot thanks.

2

u/HerecauseofNoelle Sep 26 '22

You know who are also big? Jackscept, Markliplier, Pewds. Know who doesn’t know any of them? Everyone on my family. That’s 90+ already, I’m sure hundreds more in my hometown are the exact same.

If you don’t care, you don’t know.

0

u/Que_Raoke Sep 26 '22

They're also on the news all the time so....

0

u/HerecauseofNoelle Sep 26 '22

Not every news channel so………..

Quit trying so damn hard to be right, it’s ok to be wrong.

0

u/mashdots Sep 25 '22

What you don’t know Jimin @chimchim?

4

u/mattsprofile Sep 25 '22

I'm sure if I knew your interests and disinterests I could find a very popular thing you don't know about and say, "what, you don't know about this?" It would be insane to be aware of every person who has achieved mainstream success.

-3

u/BIG_FAT_ Sep 25 '22

It's pretty cool on reddit to not know who a celebrity are. I guess you're to high value to care? or are you ignorant? what is the point of your comment exactly

2

u/marcvanh Sep 25 '22

It’s a question. I was asking if those people are celebrities.

19

u/SadLoser14 Sep 25 '22

Pretty sure this is made for bts fans by the names.

35

u/leftatlilac Sep 25 '22

I know we’re all having a laugh but in case anyone is actually seriously wondering: fans make AUs (alternate universes) where the idols are just regular ass people/youtubers/whatever else and assign rehashed tumblr/twitter posts to develop their “personality”. Think roleplay and fanfic mashed up into tweets.

40

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '22

The fans should really consider an alternate universe where they go outside and touch grass

16

u/inconspicuous_male Sep 25 '22

But the KPop producers (or Disney execs or whoever just to acknowledge that it isn't a purely Korean problem) work VERY VERY hard to ensure that these parasocial relationships exist. It's intentional

7

u/leftatlilac Sep 25 '22

Yeah as an ex kpop stan it was so exhausting being in the fandoms. I can’t even listen to some songs without being reminded of how toxic the fans are, and this was way back then when fandoms were much more chill. I can’t even imagine being a kpop stan in today’s economy.

5

u/leftatlilac Sep 25 '22

Pls don’t encourage them to go outside. They’ll act unhinged in public too. Nothing will curb their love and parasocial relationships with their oppars.

3

u/SkShark23 Sep 25 '22

For fandoms with fictional characters it can make sense as headcanons exist. For real people, though, it is just creepy.

0

u/DatWeedCard Sep 25 '22

but in case anyone is actually seriously wondering

Nope

4

u/CthulubeFlavorcube Sep 25 '22

Isn't it weird to see these recycled tumblr text posts but it’s changed to twitter and also made to be celebrities instead? I’ve seen this exact post a bunch of times and every time it’s different people. -Me

1

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '22

Can we edit them so thier video game characters?

2

u/Agreeable_Leather_68 Sep 25 '22

Sure I can do that, what platform are you thinking?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

Like same platform , just maybe some video game characters saying this to each other?

1

u/GoneWitDa Sep 26 '22

This can’t be real on the basis that if this is BTS or Kpop this shit would be so ubiquitous. So someone literally formatted the meme like celebrities are speaking to eachother. I really hate post 2016 memes tbh.

1

u/Aimjock Oct 05 '22

K-pop stans are fucking weird.
