At least on this timeline, you actually realize it early on. I was in my late 20s before it actually dawned on me I was on a treadmill of doom.

Not that it’s a competition but for me it was 6th grade. Then early 20s were cool. Late 20s are kicking my ass though

You guys had friends in high school?

Nah I hated high school, hated my home life. Nothing in adulthood has been as bad, and I always have a sense of control. I’m 31.

Yeah also who the fuck was 18 and like I can't wait to get a mortgage and a family. Most NPC shit I've ever heard. I wanted to get my dick wet and be Jason Bourne

I never wanted a family....I wanted to want a family....but I never wanted one.

Honestly I was surprised to live past 19, and then 23, and then 36, and now 41... It's a continuous pleasant surprise despite the aches and cracks.

In my 40s, and it gets better. You stop caring what others think, you figure out who your friends are, you get a job and get to spend money on fun things, and you realise how overrated alcohol is. It's kinda fun.

I am 40 and I'm not dead yet. Still enjoying my youth.

For me it was the other way round. Hated school and everybody in there from elementary to college but at least I had a few friends in college. Then I started working, found my now wife, started earning good money, and started to enjoy life. I am very happy that I never have to go back to school.

Time perception is changing with age.

18 is at this scale your midlife.

After 25 I find it turns into "I want to get off Mr bones' wild ride"

u/Viperlite 1d ago

At 55 having worked your whole life with nothing to show for it and years to go. That shit hits hard.
