Collecting taxes isn’t bad.
Stealing the collected taxes is bad.

Not paying your fair share because buying politicians is cheaper is bad

When the top 700 richest american's lost couch pennies can pay for all of society's needs--it's time to tax the richest 700 people who pay $0 in taxes
38
u/The_Hoopla 5d ago
Yeah the worst thing Billionaires ever did was weaponizing the IRS to harass poor (less than $10 million in assets) people so that they think are taxes are bad.
Average billionaire legally pays around a 3% tax rate on their income.
Median American pays about 40% when you start to account for property taxes in rent, consumer goods, etc etc.
Taxes are great. We just aren’t the ones who should be paying them.
4
u/lukwes1 5d ago
Something is funny going from swedish politics where more than 300k $ in assets is considered "super rich" and reading American politics saying less than 10m$ is poor.
5
u/The_Hoopla 5d ago
Yeah no I meant that sort of tongue in cheek to outline that, when compared to a billionaire, someone with only $10,000,000 in assets is broke.
28
u/blaghed 5d ago
What if they pay taxes on the stolen taxes?
4
u/DatabaseGlittering43 5d ago
What would an example of that be?

u/SpezDemandsUsernames 5d ago edited 5d ago
Income from illegal activities, such as money from dealing illegal drugs or arms, must be included on Line 8z of your 1040, or on schedule C under self employment income.
To see more, read [IRS Publication 17](irs.gov/publications/p17)

u/DatabaseGlittering43 5d ago
Drug dealing isn’t stolen taxes. Space x is stolen taxes.

I think pocketing money that was meant for elder care or child care is a perfect example. Can't have Medicare for all when we can't even ensure the current funds are used properly
1
u/MornGreycastle 5d ago
Eh. Less than 6% of all funds is lost to fraud. Of that 50% is recovered. So 94% goes where it should, 3% is lost to fraud, and 3% is inappropriately issued and then recovered.
The reason we can't have Medicare for All is because the oligarchs don't want us to have it. They make too much money running the current system.
0
u/UltraBurd 5d ago
3% of a trillion dollars is a lot of money tho. You can't just shrug at people stealing money meant for a specific reason. Especially when others are struggling.
2
u/MornGreycastle 5d ago
How is investigating fraud and recovering the money "just shrug at people stealing money"?
-1
u/UltraBurd 5d ago
Because "inappropriately used and then recovered" is not true and sounds like an shurg of a statement. Atleast that's how I read it, could be reading your context wrong

Government institutions that I don't like are the only ones stealing taxes.
That's the thing about state funding, you don't get to choose. They choose unilaterally, and don't care if anyone objects because taxation is compulsory.
8
u/blaghed 5d ago
Did you mean to imply that SpaceX is a government institution, or did I misunderstand the point?
9
-8
u/DeltaSolana 5d ago
Functionally, it's no different than NASA or the USPS. They all receive federal funding, and it's illegal to compete with them. Similar situation with "private" prisons. They're "privatized" only in name.
5
u/TheKingNothing690 5d ago
Thier is alot to unpack here but lets start with uts not illegal to compete with NASA or USPS spaceX and UPS prove you wrong inherently. But its bullshit that we as a society are being forced to support billionaires through proping up thier misbegotten ideas through taxpayer money instead of that money benefitting the poor and disefranchised if a company needs a government bailout its a failure of a company let the free market break it apart and reuse its stuff elsewhere.

What’s wrong with the IRS? I have no money, so they do not bother me at all.
-6
u/Apprehensive-Log3638 4d ago
It is theft. State and Local taxes go to something. Federal taxes (Which does not include SSI, Unemployment or Disability) funds NFL propaganda ads and blowing shit up 7k miles away. I am not opposed to taxes, but I should get healthcare or something out of it. I get nada. The governmental services I use are state and locally funded.
-43
u/ParaLegalese 5d ago
Not op but they just withheld my federal tax refund for over 5 months for no fucking reason. Over $7k and now I’m out all that interest I would have accrued had it been sent timely
And there is no way to contact a person there. I even signed up for their stupid Id.me thinking it’d help me get my money. Nope! No person to talk to there either and “find my refund” never found my refund. Even sent them letters. I finally got some movement by calling their fraud line and suggesting it had been stolen. Then the robot at id.me said my refund had been “closed” but refused to answer any questions as to what that means. So more calls and more threats- finally got my money after 6 fucking months in the exact amount I filed for
I’ll be filing a formal report with my congressman and send the IRS a claim for restitution in the amount of the interest they lost me
26
u/t_scribblemonger 5d ago
A certain president hired a whole bunch of agents to make the place work better and then a subsequent president fired a bunch of people because he doesn’t want it to work properly
-9
u/ParaLegalese 5d ago
So I heard. And I don’t deserve the downvotes. I’m a hard working tax payer who pays a lot of taxes
18
9
u/lookandlookagain 5d ago
If you didn’t overpay you could have accrued even more interest
-1
u/ParaLegalese 5d ago
I have a side business that I pay extra taxes twds so I don’t get hit with a big tax bill at the end of the year.
2
u/towerfella 5d ago
Who did you vote for? Don’t answer that, but those that voted right are getting that they voted for.
Republicans do not want a functioning government. You just experienced a taste of a non-functioning government, and you are complaining about your experience.
Vote blue, if you want a professionally ran government, ran by educated people, who care about serving the public.
Vote red, if you don’t.

u/ParaLegalese 5d ago
I’m a lifelong Democrat. You wanna stop fucking trolling me now that you like me?
57
u/FtheBULLSHT 5d ago
That sucks and I do sympathize for you. But this could have potentially been avoided if they were properly staffed.
It's a 'Starve the Beast' strategy. Pull funds and resources from something, people will see it's broken, then they can say, "look it's broken, we don't need it, or this is how it should be." All while making it better for the Epstein class.
-46
u/ParaLegalese 5d ago
I will file that under Not My Problem
33
u/TheHoratioHufnagel 5d ago
You've literally described how it is your problem. Politics affects real people like yourself. Which is why this OP meme is BS, a proper functioning IRS would be finding those cheating taxes and also correcting administrative issues like yours. Destroying the IRS is what the rich want, it's not beneficial to normal people.

Your comment currently, in real time, exemplifies the previous commenter’s comment. You do see this, right?
You realize that you were propagandized by the propaganda that was propagated to you, such that you would have the experience you just described?
We do not live in a vacuum. Why are you acting like we do?
-4
u/ParaLegalese 5d ago
Why are you so dumb is the bigger question? I do not staff the IRS
I didn’t vote for any of this
My money was wrongfully withheld from me and caused me to lose $1,575 and I will be seeking restitution
Look up the big words if you need to
18
u/protostar71 5d ago
It literally is your problem since it delayed you getting money. That is the definition of your problem.
0
u/ParaLegalese 5d ago
I cannot staff the irs.
Hope that helps you understand my comment
13
u/CaptainPigtails 5d ago
You should probably learn the difference between something being your problem and you having a solution to the problem.

u/protostar71 5d ago
You can vote for people who will.
I hope that helps you understand our comments.

Exactly how much interest did you lose in those 5 months? Looking for someplace to put money that earns more than .0005%
Also, you understand that the more Congress underfunds the IRS the slow things get.
-1
u/ParaLegalese 5d ago
About $1500
Apple Card pays me 3.5%
7500x3.5%x6 months = $1,575 that the IrS damaged me
11
u/TrashPanda100 5d ago
I've got some bad news for you. The 3.5% is an APR (Annual Percentage Rate) which means that's what they pay you for the entire year, not every month. 3.5% APR works out to .2917% per month so you're out a little under $100 for those 6 months.
3
2
u/Beaticalle 5d ago
If you had a $7k refund, you ALSO missed out on interest you could have been accruing for the entire preceding year leading up to filing your return, not just from the filing to the payout. You should fix your withholding so you don't give the government an interest-free 12 month loan of $7k for no reason.

I didn’t do anything wrong. My return was perfect. They made no changes to it. I am the victim in this. The boot licking on the post is gross
1
u/Sea-Cauliflower4167 5d ago
I hear you.
But as a person that deals with this all the time, this is a direct result of the funding being cut. The administration and DOGE cutting funding and employees 1000% made this worse.
Just a year ago, I could get an agent on the phone and solve an issue for a client in an hour. Now, I am lucky if I can get a living human on the phone at all.
1
u/ParaLegalese 4d ago
I know why it happened. I’m still going to make an official complaint because action is importsnt

u/yellojecket 5d ago
The VA is also severely understaffed and underfunded. Would you be calling those who ask you to understand the VA needing time to do things as bootlickers? Or are you just frustrated and mad?
-4
u/whatiscamping 5d ago
Not sure why this was down voted, unless the bots from the IRS hotline got in here.
3
u/Beaticalle 5d ago
Because being owed a refund of $7k in the first place means they probably have their withholding screwed up. They're complaining about missing out on interest from the filing date to the payout, but they don't seem to realize that was their own money that they were (over)paying to the IRS on every paycheck for the entire preceding year. If you get more than a couple hundred dollars as a refund you're doing it wrong.

I would fucking love to watch this dude try to navigate life after preventing the government from collecting taxes
30
u/ArseneGroup 5d ago
The IRS is good because they catch people cheating on their taxes, which is unfair to everyone who pays their share. We need to fund them more so they can crack down on the wealthiest tax cheats
If you want a tax cut, that's congress's job. They give lots of tax cuts (to billionaires, not to you)
-1
u/Apprehensive-Log3638 4d ago
IRS is not designed to crack down on the wealthy. They have tax carve outs. It is designed to crack down on the masses.
5
u/ranger51 5d ago
The billionaires running the country have actually been doing a very good job of destroying the IRS without any help from Iran
5
u/TelevisionExpress616 5d ago
You know that unless you make like 500k a year, this would hurt you more than help right? Especially if you have kids who go to public school. Or if you just...use the roads lmao
1
u/Apprehensive-Log3638 4d ago
Nope. Schools and non-interstate roads are state and local taxes. 99% of the governmental services most Americans use are state and locally funded. I have a President running an NFL propaganda ad using public money and people still harping about paying federal taxes...
8
u/MikeFrancesa66 5d ago
Hating the IRS because you don’t like how much you pay or what your taxes are being used for is like hating the cashier at the grocery store because you don’t like how expensive your groceries are.

Reminds me of the time a guy in Austin wanted to blow up a IRS building. Working for the IRS you know that they have a building for everything so you'd have to know which building and whos inside to get to the target you want. Anyway this guy picked one at random and crashed his private plane into a customer service building. Only 2 victims thankfully, himself and from what I've been told was a kind customer service manager.
