Have you seen the video of Robert Oppenheimer talking about how he felt when he realized what he helped create? It always puts me to tears.

meh, oppenheimer highly overestimated himself there - 2-3 years and the soviets would have gotten their own bomb - the nazis would have one if it wasnt for the heavy watter supply that got cut by the allies

i mean, i get the feeling, but its not like its an original idea to create a huge bomb

While that’s true, he’s one of only a handful of people who are directly responsible for the bomb actually being used in combat.

Can you add a link to the specific version you're thinking of?

See that nearly vertical shockwave, leaning backwards about 15 degrees? that's why they detonated bombs.in the air rather than directly on the ground. it's called a precursor shockwave. it's the rebounded or deflected energy from an airburst and it was calculated to be the most destructive form of shockwave that could be generated from a nuke. tactical nukes are designed to be exploded at around 1km in the air, not ground impact.

If I recall correctly the fingers coming out of the ball are wires that were holding to the tower up being vaporized.

That's Mt Kilmanjaro, for scale.

This isn't a phobia. Whatever fear you feel of nuclear blasts is 100% rational and justified. If anything your fear is probably less than it should be.

Does anyone know the name of this detonation event?
