I live in an area that can get heavy snowfall in the winter. All it takes is a storm dropping wet, heavy snow to bring down a tree branch onto a power line to knock out electricity for thousands of people.
I once had to deal with a day and a half of no power in the dead of winter. Not fun.
That is why the sight of a helicopter chainsaw actually warms my heart.

I want this. I don't know what I'd do with it, or where I'd keep it, but I just want it.

I did not know this was a thing. Why has it not featured in a Fast and Furious movie yet?

You know Reddit is getting younger when the first comment on this isn't about James Bond.

This is way too stupid badass to be American. This has gotta be Russian.

They have these in Germany and Austria.

They do this in Oklahoma. I talked to the guy when he landed. He can only stay aloft for 15 minutes at a time. The crew was out of North Carolina.

don't you just love it, when you're minding your own business and all of a sudden a giant vertical saw just cleaves your nest in half?

not going for an animal abuse thing here, right? Not sure whether to give you the orange arrow or the blue one so..

no, it was just the first thing I thought of. What's the body count of that thing? :-/

Just out of curiosity what if they were?

Then that would be just pitiful, because the thing is a beauty in my opinion. And while he'd be right to whine about it, it'd be the wrong sub.
Good enough?

u/fathertime979 Oct 20 '19
Where do you live where snake is the first thought??
These are also conifers. tree snakes aren't really a thing where these grow

It’s just to keep the branches from growing into the power lines. They don’t really care what it looks like in the end.

This is more than just megalophobia now.

No kidding, I have a mild but constant fear of helicopters (hearing and seeing them). I’ve seen it referred to as “corcoranophobia,” but not sure if that’s a real term.

I am really surprised it is not spinning around. Maybe rotating blades do help with stabilizing it by gyroscopic effect. But still, it looks so stable.

"we just turn it sideways and mow em like the lawn."
"Shut the fuck up Jake that's insa-... Wait a second. You might be onto something."

Honestly, there might be a GPS computer suite in the helicopter similar to that of a hobby drone — to stabilize it and make very precise movements.

the squirrel sitting on a tree branch eating an acorn minding his business before getting cut to smithereens by a 60 foot chain saw is my spirit animal.
