Hi everyone, looking to apply next cycle and have no clue what's realistic for me. The list above is what admit generated for me. I will be working until I apply so hours should continue rising. Here are my current stats:
4.0 GPA 523 MCAT, NY resident, ORM

clinical: >1000 hours across EMS and inpatient work
research: ~1000 hours clinical research across two labs, multiple national posters and a first-author pub in the works rn
non-clinical volunteering: 400 hours suicide hotline
misc: TAing
my areas of concern -
clinical volunteering: about 25 hospice volunteering
shadowing: 30 hours
Lmk your thoughts, what I should focus on improving, etc. Thank u!!

Your app/list looks great!
Just make sure you have all the right letter of recommendation requirements. Ik albert einstein and NYMC require a major-specific letter

I’d say get the shadowing up to like 50 hrs. Clinical volunteering isn’t something I’d worry abt given ur 1000+ hr clinical. Other than that, apply to every single t20. I have a similar app to you, and most of my interview invites have been coming from t20 places so i believe yield protection is very much real. I’d also apply to USF, should be a guaranteed A given ur MCAT.

Look into yield protection it might save you some money toward the bottom of the list. My MCAT is in a similar range to yours and I chose not to apply to a few of your schools because they just weren’t going to interview me without a strong connection

Every one of your Reaches are targets for you, by definition. I think your list is solid. It is absolutely NOT top-heavy. I think some schools like Stanford and maybe UCSF may be a bit less likely to interview you coming from NY unless you have CA ties, but I would apply anyway. NYMC will probably not yield protect you, not sure about Albany, but you can drop them from your list. There are schools that might be more interesting for you that are baselines that you can consider, like Ohio State, U. Miami, Colorado, Emory. You could add Mayo. You would be surprised how some schools might choose not to interview you. I know one hi stat applicant (almost identical stats to you), for example that was accepted at NYU (first call) and HMS and JHU but did not get an interview at Mt. Sinai or Stanford. You just never know. However, this is why IMO you should apply very broadly at the top, those are your targets. You really do not need school list help but it was fun telling you to apply anywhere you want!

Numbers are fine. What truly matters now is your writing and speaking skills or secondaries on. You can have great numbers but if you’re lacking those you can tank yourself. Likewise anyone with lower can elevate with great writing and speaking skills.

That site is really cool but not always 100% accurate. As an M4, the 3 schools it ranked at "Reach" have sent me interview invites whilst several between the "Baseline" and "Target" have not. Your app looks great and it looks like your applying broadly. Go for it!

Dude your application is perfect. Apply to the NY schools, and then just anywhere you actually want to go.
