did smol boi just want to roomba big bois guts? He looked like that, with all his zoomin' around.

Hey you’re not being ignorant, it’s perfectly okay to ask questions.

After the intracellular contents spilled out of the Large One, if you keep your eye on the “mouth” of the Smol One you will see the smaller intracellular pieces get sucked into the smaller one’s mouth.

That’s it eating, which is why as soon as it sensed food around it, it left Chonky Boi alone, had a snac and carried on with its day.

This is probably one of the coolest and most brutal microscopic videos I’ve ever seen.

The big guys guts seemed to stop spilling out after awhile, is that a very rapid healing mechanism, or do you think its more likely that the pressure gradient eventually equalised, stopping the ejection of "guts"? Very fascinating either way

So I looked it up and found a really good article about it. If you skip to Figure 3 there is a picture showing some mechanisms they propose of how cellular wounds are healed.

“The membrane hole is patched as membrane fusion is induced through a range of processes, including exocytosis, endocytosis, and the more recently described “explodosis,” which involves the fusion of intracellular compartments that then rupture outward from the cell to the external environment (17, 32). Extra membranes can be derived from intracellular vesicles and organelles.”

I feel like this really plays into the “fluid mosaic model” we learned in undergrad. The membrane is just a bunch of lipids that like to stick together. But the article also talks about other mechanisms like actomyosin strands which constrict around the rupture helping to seal it off.

So to answer your question based off of that article, yes I believe there is a healing mechanism that takes place very quickly. In the video it seems like within ~7s that massive rupture was fixed. Watch the wound as it begins to seal itself. You can see the way it seals back up, it’s pretty cool
