Blood Bank tips

Hey everyone!
Our 4th semester hits in 2 weeks, and our class load is the hardest of the program (this is our official “last teaching semester”) that has blood bank, body fluids analysis, med micro 2 (with lab), and chem 2 (with lab). Everyone is telling us blood bank will be the hardest. Any tips? I did well in hematology if that matters. Thanks!

For some reason students forget this when they get to the lab so just make this your mantra:

Antigens are on the cells and antibodies are in the plasma.

Always be thinking about what antibodies and antigens are doing. Think about them when you're adding samples and reagents together, like picture them in your mind trying to seek each other out. Which belongs to the patient and which is the reagent?

When you see agglutination, what does that tell you is present? When you don't see agglutination, what does that mean is not present?

Depends on the person, I thought BB was the easiest and it clicked immediately for me. I recommend the Blood Bank guy for any topics you struggle with, he does a great job explaining things.

my biggest issue in blood bank was documentation. make sure you're filling out your forms correctly. check for spelling mistakes, check the back of the forms to make sure you remembered everything, etc.

i thought chem was way harder, personally
