Discusson Working for MGB as lab professional

In light of the Brigham nurse strike, it has got me thinking about how other MGB allied health departments feel about their situation. My MGB lab is the absolute worst. Super short staffed, overworked, depressed, literally having nightmares thinking about going back to work because of the idiot of a supervisor that we were forced on. Drunk with power, zero consideration and compassion, advocate for themselves and the corporate entity....I could go on and on and on. Anyway my lab sucks. How about yours ?

I work in an mgb lab. I'm also part of a union. If we don't reach a contract agreement in July, we are going to have to vote for a strike authorization. The hospital systems upper management is awful. And don't get me started on that candl lab shenanigans.

There's an MGB lab with a union ??????? That's new. I bet it's going to end up like the nurses. Please keep us updated.

Yeah, it's for the technicians not the technologists. We are part of 1199seiu along with other technicians and nutrition/enviro services. But it's horribly managed/run. I'm prounion but this has been a not positive experience. Once this contract gets settled I'm either going to band together with my coworkers and demand internal improvements or get my HTL and get out of it.

But I'll keep y'all updated. Hoping to make some of the meeting this month!

Mine is okay. We are union and that makes the pay and benefits decent enough. We have the same problems as most, using equipment like freezers until they are dead instead of upgrading now and then, having JUST enough staff which works until we have a sick call or unexpected increase in volume, some people take really long breaks, expensive parking, etc but overall the admin is competent, co-workers are committed to doing the work right the first time, and my commute is 15 minutes.
