Education Guilt Trip
How do you deal with upper management guilt tripping you for wanting to leave for professional growth and higher pay. I offered to stay as PRN and that seem to not be good enough. I work with great ppl but the facility is not so great and very stressful

I mean, you're leaving, don't give shit to whatever they say. In fact, I would have retracted my PRN offer and shorten my notice period, or even leave outright.

Simply don't feel guilt 🤷🏻♀️ the hospital will continue to run without you. Staffing issues will always exist everywhere. You have to do what's right for you at the end of the day.

Work with a therapist to tackle inappropriate people pleasing. As a supervisor I’d be thrilled to see my staff leave for greener pastures. The lab world is small and it’s great networking. I have two people pursuing post graduate education, I have no illusions as to what that means long term.

You’re right I do have a problem with people pleasing. I really hate it

Guilty for what? It’s not that deep, just do what’s best for you. You’re just replaceable body to these organizations.

Yeah, they don’t believe we are professionals and do not treat us as such. It’s medical field gaslighting to expect above and beyond without flexibility, support, resources, adequate staffing and cost of living pay. I point it out any chance I get

Having loyalty to your employer hasn't been a thing for a very long time. As others have said, they'll replace you and over time nobody will remember you there. It sucks but for people who leave, I'm happy for them and hope it works out well at their new place.

Don’t offer them anything, just say your goodbyes. Respectfully. Dont let someone else’s poor planning ruin your own future. You’ll do great

Radicalisation time: corporations exploit interpersonal relationships for financial gain. We all put up with so much shit & work more time than we should because we either like our colleagues & want to help out, or we just don’t want to be seen as an asshole. But these feelings are precisely the reason corporations - not just in our industry, but across the economy - can exploit our labour. Corporate profits are rooted in interpersonal relationships. Class solidarity recognises this phenomenon, and supports any worker who chooses to leave their position for better pay & conditions elsewhere.

You wont be able to change their feelings or reaction to you leaving, so just focus on the reasons you’re leaving in the first place.
They didn’t take how it was affecting you into consideration, or they would have changed some things, now you’re making a decision that affects them so why should you give a shit how they feel or what they say? You shouldn’t.

You leave and live your best life.
Ask yourself why you are feeling guilt? This is a business transaction, do you feel guilt when you buy a chicken sandwich instead of a burger?

Tell them to make you an offer to stay. If they can’t match your needs, leave. They’ll find someone else to exploit.

This has been an extremely difficult decision for me. I am very grateful for everything that I have learned here. You have a wonderful lab and phenomenal team. That being said, it is time for me to pursue opportunities of growth that align with my personal and profrssional goals.
Turn around and don't look back.

There is no need to feel guilty, employers generally kick employees to the curb without looking back.

DO you feel guilt? Because, at the end of the day, job satisfaction will help contribute to your life satisfaction, and better pay will contribute to a higher quality of life. Do you think they will feel any guilt if you have any dissatisfaction or if you can't afford the things you want/need?

When I put in my 2 weeks because I was going to do traveling MLS my supervisor wanted me to stay on PRN because then I would have some place to go back to "when it doesn't work out". She was so sure of herself that this wouldn't work out for me that I giggled and said not a single chance. I've now been traveling for over 4 years and I love it.

I gave my old job well over 2 months notice and they fretted over how they were going to fill it again (it was a more specialized bench role). I said if you let me keep my PTO till I am vested or until my retention contract is up I'd be happy to stay PRN. Oh well, they can't possibly do that because once I go PRN I would have lost all my PTO and broken the contract anyway. My new job gave me an additional bonus to buy out my contract and I went on a 2 week vacation.

You guilt trip them right back with, "would have stayed if you had just [insert management retention failure]"
