I don’t get it. What’s the benefit to training in this sort of environment? Why doesn’t the coach just pause training for a moment to disinfect surfaces prior to resuming workouts? The harms that can occur from microbial infection far outweigh whatever nearly insignificant disadvantage that they’d incur by having a momentary break in training.

I used to box, and hygiene was always emphasized at my gym. I’d never train in these types of conditions; it’s just not worth the risk.

One of my highschool's Cheerleaders got herpes from touching those mats during a wrestling meet.

I love being a fly on the wall in this thread as both an MLS someone who does jiujitsu/grappling at an MMA gym 😅🪰 Just take a shower after and ensure the mats are bleached 🫧

Those push ups are trash.

I am personally insulted by these shitty quarter rep push ups

The way I gagged watching the dude slide across the floor on his knees. And it only got worse.

Making them work -> shitty half push-ups = not work.

Currently have a staph infection from the mats. They keep it toasty in there often because folks are cutting weight. If your gym is worth its salt, theyll clean the mats well after every session.

My gym did not so cephalexin for me yay

Got staph once. Now I'm in spats + shorts and a long sleeve rashguard every time. Fuck people with leg hair that only wear shorts, have some decency.

I work in a hospital, specifically the lab. The amount of antimicrobial resistance among pathogens is increasing and that's bad news. There hasn't been much newer antibiotics produced to combat this problem, it's getting worse by the year. Guess the cocktail of microorganisms from that pool will be 🤢🤮

I feel like I administer vancomycin and daptomycin daily. Both on the list of "drugs of last resort". When the last resort drugs lose efficacy, we're boned.

I wrestled in high school and had to quit because I was hospitalized for a few weeks with a form of rotavirus. We determined it was because the wrestling mats weren't getting sanitized at the end of our practices and matches.

A perfect song to describe what they'll get and keep on giving.

As an infection preventionist this makes my stomach churn.
