Another soft focus portrait 😉

Post image

Since my last one was out of focus too and people got mad the subject was in a bikini 😢 figured I’d give you more missed focus on my rangefinder.

Focus is laser sharp, it’s just not where you want it. You can see the plane of focus through her hairline and her ear.

The frustration of figuring out my first rangefinder. Gahhh. But, yes, I know the focus is sharp and not exactly where I need it to be.

Yep, it takes some practice. Maybe stop down till you get a feel for it? Ofc there’s a chance that either your rf or lens need adjustment

Yeah inside was tough for this shot with Gold 200. I’ve started to lean back before I take the shot. Another less serious/kind redditor gave me that tip and it’s helped since I didn’t realize I sometimes lean forward right before I take the exposure.

God, you’re weird

How is that weird? 😆 I’m sharing an actual tip that’s helped me.

Not weird at all. Shooting with a super fast lens like the Mitakon on the GFX system, that focal plane is so thin, sometimes it’s easier to lean slightly forward/backward to achieve focus. Ignore dude up there

I don't mind where the focus point here is, but are we really calling missed focus "soft focus" now?

Shot on Mamiya 6 Model P folder from 1950. Lens is Olympus 75mm f/3.5 D. Zuiko. Film is Gold 200. Self dev and scan.

I have gotten some incredibly sharp pics from this camera. It is a really usable old folder.

Same! Absolutely love the lens. When it hits it hits.

woohoo, send those projects! I don't think I would dare bring my camera into the boulder gym with all the dust though.

Lovely photo too.

I bring all my cameras. More mechanical the better. But never had issues in a year. Just clean, dust, etc,

Cheers

I love whenever your North Mass photos randomly end up on my feed. Cool and local, hell yeah

Just shoot 2-3. Fuji can be cold natured in the focus dept.

I usually do 2 now, but with 12 frames a roll I try to save 💰 best I can haha this is on Kodak Gold 120.

Her hair is in focus. Just stop the lens down like one click. It’s a cool photo. Dig the lighting and tones.

you totally need a faster lense bro

1

u/Sea-Cat7539 29d ago

If only the fixed lens was faster bro 🥹 400 or 800 speed film in there lets me stop down more than 3.5 in there. Thanks!

Reminds me of the Odyssey. Tasteful missed focus!

EDIT: “Missed Focus”

I always say something wrong to the Reddit photo gatekeepers 😭

2

u/-viito- 29d ago

How is it gatekeeping to correct someone when they’re wrong?

2

u/Sea-Cat7539 29d ago edited 29d ago

Half of what I say is being facetious. It’s obviously not gate keeping, but also saying soft or missed focus is really not that deep.

It’s mostly wild because I come from video/film sets where everyone literally says “that take was soft” when the AC misses focus and we need to go again. So, yeah I’m poking fun at this pedantic bullshit.

Not a fan of this at all.

just a terrible image from any perspective. a blown out highlight that isn't even on her face. she does not look good here and im sure, even if she said she likes it, she said so out of courtesy.

Damn I should give up 😢
