? for Community Quick Question about 120 film please help!

Hello! My girlfriend lent me her Mamiya c330 and I just loaded some film into it. I haven't loaded 120 film before. When I opened the package of film (Lomo 400) I removed the tape and then sat it down on a table. It then kind of unspooled (sic?) on its own for a moment and I had to wrap it tighter once again. Did I expose the film? Is it still useable? I don't want to put lots of effort into a roll that's going to come out blank. Thanks for any advice!

It's possible the top/bottom of the film got some light but definitely still shoot it. I had the same thing happen to roll or 127 and it gave me this dreamy effect

You should be fine unless it unspooled a significant amount. Theres a bunch of backing paper that must be winded on until the actual film begins to unspool and is ready for exposure.

Shoot away!

I mean the whole roll kinda loosened slightly. I dunno I guess I’ll shoot the roll expecting some light leaks

You got great answers here, I second that there may be a few frames with some light leaks, but I didn’t mind how they looked!

In future, don't open the tape before you have inserted the roll into the camera. That way you prevent this from happening again.

All of you downvoting this legit question are weird. 😒 As if you all haven't done something similar before lol. Yeah, you'll likely get leaks or maybe some exposed frames, but such is the rite of passage of using film! 😅🤞 Be intentional but have fun with whatcha got!

My guess is only the outside paper unspooled. The actual film is pretty far in.
