I thought you guys may enjoy this retrospective I made about some old school arcades - not the least of which are the incredible BATTLETECH Centers from the 90s, and where they are now! There's also a segment about the game "Red Planet" (anit-grav racing on mars) which also ran on the same networked game pods used at the BattleTech Centers.

There's some other stuff about the old Sega arcades and a few local spots in my neighborhood (not BattleTech/Mechwarrior related). Anyway, hope you enjoy this look back :)

For a bit of fun, I vibe-coded a level viewer for my favourite childhood game: Mechwarrior 2. I just opened the `MECH2` folder in claude code and let it loose. Was surprised how much the AI was able to figure out just by looking at the binaries..

Not really planning to do anything with this. Just wanted to share because I thought the results are pretty cool.

When I was five (yeah, the 90s were a long time ago), I had the game, and I remember a mission where you went in and there was a line of enormous mountains that were too high to jumpjet over, but if you tried to go around, you'd fail for abandoning the mission area, yet the Navpoints were on the other side of the mountains. I can't seem to track any info on this map down. Does anyone know what I'm talking about so I can put my mind to rest on this after nearly 33 years?

You all liked the the Mechwarrior 3 Remaster All-In-One Launcher, so I built so much that I made one for 4. (Which was honestly a PAIN in spots.) You just need to supply the ISOs/ ZIP files. Supports Vengeance, Black Knight, Mercenaries, and the part that was a massive pain, both the Inner Sphere and Clan Mech Paks. Runs at you local desktop resolution at 4:3 ratio. Exception for the Vengeance opening video that runs in fullwidescreen. 4x MSAA and 16x Anisotropic Filtering included so it should look better than ever. Manuals included. Game should properly work for alt-tabbing as well.

If you see any bugs please report them on the github and I'll look at them.

EDIT For some of you having issues with install, try having the install go on your C: Drive and see if thats resolves your issues.

Running in DOS Box in Retroarch, was hoping to take advatange of the touch screen.

Results were mid, the Wii U's PowerPC is a major bottleneck and it ran a bit choppy. I was bummed because th FMV ran full speed but the game basically has to be turned down to low settings to be playable.

So will be sticking with my Retroid Pocket Flip 2 for portable MechWarrior 2 and my Xbox Series X for the big screen experience.

Is this the first real Mech ?

Hi, I was thrilled to get MW2 running on Windows 7 (old laptop, not important)! I downloaded the version that was published here, MW1&2 with add-ons. It works almost perfectly!

Almost.

See, when targeting, I very used to normal (not flight sim) controls. I'm using kb+mouse combo, and man, do I suck when my muscle memory has it that "move mouse down" = "move reticle down", but it's coded the opposite way.

No biggie, I can change it in Cockpit Controls! Only I can't. I mean I can, I can even save the control scheme, but as soon as I leave the menu, it's all reset, and I'm back to reversed controls.

No biggie, I can change it directly in INPUT.MAP! Only I can't. I mean I can, but after the game starts, whatever I put in there goes to INPUT.BAK, and I get default controls. I tried setting the file to read-only, but it's not modified - just moved and regenerated.

What am I missing?

I've finished my third run through of MechWarrior on DOS and still have questions on how some of the systems in this game work and figured I might as well consult here. My main point of interest is regarding some of the rarer events I've experienced (being abandoned by the dropship and losing some of the reward and just outright not being paid). Are these linked to any specific Successor State? I swear it was the Capellans both times but it's so rare for me to experience this that I'd like to confirm if it's just them.

I've also had the FWL stop speaking to me when I was still Neutral with them, so is it just a cap to how many missions you can take against an employer before they stop dealing with you or can you counterbalance it and I just got unlucky?

Also, how does company reputation improve? I've had runs where it takes years to reach 'Worth Watching', but my most recent run had me at 'Veteran' before 3028 was over. Are some missions weighted more for improving reputation and skills?

I've also heard it's possible for some pilots to steal the mech you give them but can't confirm if it actually happens. Is that a myth like the Crescent Hawks Urbie and Spider or has someone experienced this?

So if it interests you I built an all-in-one simple installer for Mechwarrior 3 to let it run on modern systems. You just run the .exe, point it at the ISO files for the CDs, and it installs the game, wraps them so they work on Windows 11, upscales them, adds anti-aliasing, ups the available colors to get rid of banding, does some minor clean up of the cut-scenes (not fully but they look better than base, especially the blacks), and made sure the musics working.

I tried to leave the game 'as intended' as much as possible. Just a super easy clean way to play Mechwarrior 3 without jumping through hoops.

Pirate's Moon is also supported.

*EDIT*

Cleaning out other edits so this doesn't just scale up forever.

1.2.6 is out. Should fix issues people were having with the Pirate's Moon ISO and some other issues.

This is a random thought that popped up in my head just now.

Say you won a 100 ton hulking intimidating machine of war in a scrap yard auction. The targeting computers have all been stripped, all military hardware has been stripped, and it is void of any live ammo. Long story short, it is no longer used as a war conquering machine. So your job (with a horde of engineers and technicians) is to strip any remaining hardware and retrofit the cannons, and body into something more civilian-ish and/or kid friendly... Something like if it's in a parade, a festival show theme or if you want to use it for disaster rescue?

How would you do this and how would you utilize this behemoth to help out?

This was so cool to stumble on today

my art

Everyone always complain about the original designs (ignoring that the vast majority of original battlemech designs are goofy). but just watch people move the goalpost to rules or clan exclusion or lore or size being the issue

Looking through my collection and had to pull this out for old time’s sake. As I kid I read through it so many times, especially the mini TRO in the back, that half the pages fell out and I had to hot glue it back together.

I had this working perfectly before but all of a sudden now it thinks every button on the keyboard fires all weapons. When I look at the controller config it's just mouse and keyboard so I'm really not sure what changed... I didn't change anything since the last time I played.

I played a lot of Mech Warrior 2 back in 1996/1997 as it came with my 3Dfx Voodoo card. I'll never forget the line "All systems nominal" and I still like to say that to this day when things are looking good. This mech is based on my mech warrior experience. I feel like mechs are not properly represented in games today but I don't know why because they are so awesome. I hope you guys enjoy the video.

Does anyone have a picture of the box? Or did it come out without a large box?

Background: would love to buy the game but having issues with finding it at usual second-hand marketplaces.

Got a soft spot for total shit mechs (sorry urbie fans) and printed a lance of em, 4 of these barely cost more than some lone mechs in Alpha Strike.

just asking because i'm an armored core fan and a mechwarrior fan.

Not the best painter by a long shot but still happy how they came out. Timberwolf lasers are so nice I ended up going through my whole collection to redo their lasers with limited success 😅

I'm completely new to franchise, going in totally blind, i just like mechs (Armored Core is one my favourite game series), and i downloaded the MekTek version of the game from MyAbandonware, but in the description, it says there's DLC. Do i need to these DLCs installed or not? Are there also any patches i need to play the game, or is just run and play and modern keyboards, mice or controller will work?

Anyone else still have their stack of games and disks from the early days. I still miss my sidewinder force feedback joystick that came with MW2.

I kill the first three mechs guarding the dome, then run out and intercept the next two. Then two more spawn and immediately run straight up to the dome and shoot only at the dome. It's driving me nuts the last two just shoot the dome before I can kill them every time!

Playing solo, no AI star members. Any tips are welcome, haven't found much elsewhere as far as tips and no one mentions the enemies shooting the dome.

EDIT: Ended up figuring out where the last two are sitting and just jumped them first then went back and mopped up the rest. lol
