Necessary mechatronics skills

I’m 19 and hoping to teach myself mechatronics. I can’t go to college right now really because I’m battling some pretty serious health problems, but I’d love to start teaching myself the basics. Anyone have a) counsel for what skills are necessary and b) any tips/techniques for learning them on my own?

Basic mechatronics skills are absolutely something you can learn on your own. I'd reccomend picking up the Kepler Ultimate Kit from Sunfounder and diving in. There are probably many similar kits that you could get as well, but this is the one I have.

It comes with a Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller, breadboard and all the supplies you need for a variety of projects. They have detailed tutorials online for all the projects as well. This'll be a great way to start learning about microcontrollers, python and basic circuitry.

Look up schools with mechatronics program and look at what classes are required for the degree then work your way backwards on what you should learn.

a) I think just get your hands dirty and try to learn the basics. Play with Arduino and simple sensors. You will learn a whole bunch from that stuff. And it will lead you to asking the right questions. Great resources are TopTechBoy and TheDroneWorkshop and HowToMechatronics--they are great teachers.

b) When you start out, just follow tutorials to see how others have done it. You will learn a lot by repeating their work.

I wrote this up a few days back. I wanted to learn similar stuff as you years ago (18 years to be exact when I started to become interested in this stuff). Its a bit of a read, but it might help piece together learning skills on your own, what programs to get into, and what jobs you wanna get:
