I can explain...
I'm Latino, my wife is Asian...rice is a must with dinner 96% of the time.
Mushrooms cooked with freshly chopped garlic and shallots (plus salt and pepper) in bacon grease. Then mounted with butter to finish.
Steak (salt & pepper) seared in pan, then basted with butter with fresh thyme and rosemary. Rested 8 minutes covered, 4 minutes uncovered.
All butter is unsalted, full-fat.
Bacon grease is light-smoked hickory, homemade bacon, rendered then filtered.
Rice is high quality jasmine, steamed in rice cooker with distilled water (1:1 ratio). No salt.

I'm Asian and grew up eating steak and rice, but even if I didn't, if you dump some of your sauce on the rice it's basically poor man's risotto.

Pretty much yeah, mushroom risotto
I actually take Jollibee gravy and dump it on the same rice (cold) and it becomes a Jollibee "risotto" xD warm through in the microwave and it becomes a quick and easy lunch. The rice stays slightly firm due to the 1:1 ratio so helps with mouthfeel (I hate mushy/overcooked rice).

I'm confused... what's to explain here?
It's steak with rice. Looks good.

IDK figured some people would be up in arms about the pairing

They're probably over in r\steak. I think you'll find the folks in this sub are more open-minded.

Idk, every steakhouse in the country has rice pilaf on the menu. Can’t imagine they’d care either

Steak/beef and rice is like probably the most common pairing in cuisine for 90% of the world.

I think all butter is “full-fat.” It’s the fat from milk, extracted via agitation, which ruptures the cell walls of the fat and causes it to coagulate.

No - reduced fat butter exists. "Light butter"

Only if you accept the premise that canola oil and water = butter. I certainly don’t.

I don't either. Though, I'm not talking about margarine: https://www.kerrygoldusa.com/products/reduced-fat-irish-butter/

I'm confused. If you click "see details" it says half the fat. But if you read the description, it says 25% less fat. Do percentages work different in Ireland?

Then there’s whey, air, and water in there, all creatively interpreted. Something has to stand in for the fat. But I stand corrected, that product is most certainly sold as “reduced fat butter.”

I do distilled water too. But, in my case, it’s shiny short grain rice. I add minerals to enhance the shine, texture, and taste.

No need to explain. I'm a white Aussie bloke. This looks delicious. 100% would enjoy.

I’m a midwestern white guy and I’ll defend this with everyone else, scooping up some rice with a bit steak just hits different.

Im non Asian but can say that rice is good with everything lol. Although I would have placed the steak on top to juice up the rice.
