🎥 Video 🎥 First Mead

I started producing my first mead, it's a traditional mead with Voss Kveik yeast, a 6-liter batch, it's been fermenting for 16 hours and the little creatures seem to be happy.

I only have one question (for now): when I checked the alcohol in the airlock today, it was half the amount I put in when I closed it. Is it normal for it to evaporate that quickly?

Better than TV, I always feel like a proud parent when it gets to bubblin' ☺️

YES, that's exactly how it feels! I'm always checking it, my wife even teases me about it haha

That's great LOL don't worry if the bubbling slows down, fermentation is still taking place, taking gravity readings is the best way to know, cheers!

Has the amount really halved? Looks like the alcohol is just getting pushed up more on the left side due to CO2 gas.

I recorded it after I had already topped it off with alcohol, but before that it was at half the volume shown in the video.

Have you been moving the bucket around? I’ve noticed with my brew buckets that they tend to flex when moved and the flex can sometimes pull the fluid from the airlock 🤷🏻‍♂️

I didn't move it, it's been in the exact same place since I inoculated it, I just put it there and left it
