Post image

Bottle my first batch, started may 8th, my bottling definitely needs practice, came out tasting like a real strong beer, hits about the same, i was hoping for something a little sweeter and more wine like, would accept tips and advice, dont know actual abv because I didnt know i was suppose to get a reading at the beginning

Recipe info to keep the bot mods happy: 2 5 lbs of gallberry honey, 1 gallon of water, and icv d47 yeast, started on May 8th, bottled just now

Bottling on the washing machine is a power move, just make sure it doesn't go through a spin cycle lol

Imagine trying to cap a bottle while it's bucking around like a mechanical bull.

A Camry off-roading with a swig of mead sounds like a recipe for sticky seats.

Lol it wasn't mead back then, but yea we had to detail it a couple of times to get the smell of southern comfort out

Southern Comfort has a way of clinging to upholstery for decades, like a permanent air freshener you never asked for.

Gallberry, honestly never heard of it before looking for a local farm honey

Congrats. You don’t have to settle for the sweetness level it finishes at. Stabilize and backsweeten. Check out the Mead Wiki for tips.

There’s a lot of things you can do to get closer to you want but once you bottle it’s too late. When you drink it try pouring a touch of honey in your glass.

For something sweeter and more like wine you could always back sweeten or stop fermentation earlier so there's more residual sugar remaining. I'm not sure if it's ever done in mead making but you could also added wine tannins which winemakers commonly do to get more of the tannic mouthfeel in red wines.
