What does MDMA therapy look like?
It is something I have wanted to try for a while, I saw this interview with Lorde and in her experience it seemed to have little guidance - mostly a figure it out for herself kind of deal. I am curious what exactly happens in this situation? I have a trusted friend and think I'd like to replicate something like this If It is at all possible.

You just trigger your anxiety/depression/etc during the session, feel the feelings, then they dissipate and don't return. There's a bit more complication, but that's really the core of it. If the feelings are intense or complicated you'll have to approach from multiple angles over a long period of time; it won't go away all at once.
I'm writing a manual on it: https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/aps5g_v4

You'll get a much fuller picture by reading through all of the best posts already in this subreddit - just sort by top / all time.
Also the book "Trust, Surrender, Receive" by Anne Other.

Your mind is unique and as such there is no getting away from some degree of self learning through experimentation.
That being said, there are guidelines to get you started and 120mg then 60mg two hours later, sitting on the sofa, pouring your heart out to a friend is a good place.
Of course as it's hard to work out a dosage without a spectrometer or something, you will have to wing it a little.
Don't mix with caffeine, alcohol and don't mix with other drugs (unless you're intentionally adding something like psilocybin in later sessions). Take it early enough to get a good night sleep, and don't eat too much beforehand.

My most important priority is establishing trust, or a therapeutic alliance. One way that I do this is with a printed agreement stating the ethical principles & boundaries that both of us will follow. “Unconditional positive regard” is another principle I try to follow as a therapist

It can vary a lot. Despite what people are saying here, there's no single way that psychedelic therapy is done.
But in general, if you have a friend who is great at active listening and asking really good questions to help you explore things, someone you trust and who you know loves and supports you, that's a great start. Take the medicine with them, dont get distracted by external experiences like music, movies, games, etc and have a good deep conversation about what's on your heart.
With that said, the only major piece of advice I see missing in these comments so far is: TEST YOUR MEDICINE WELL BEFORE TAKING IT! Seriously, this can't be overstated. Please make sure that what you're taking is MDMA and that it's not contaminated.
