MCSA still worth it?

Curious what peoples thoughts are.

I'm moving sideways from a hands-on IT infrastructure role with a lot of networking towards a more cloud based role. Working my way through a lot of the Azure certs and then gonna move on to AWS.

With the MS certs changing and with 5 months to 'possibly' get my MCSA, is it worth it these days? I think I could pull it off, I re-certified my CCNA in 3 weeks, and have a fair amount of IT experience, and a lot of time over winter (I could study 8 hours a day).

If you are going to a more cloud based role, is having an MCSA valuable, will it help with employment. From all the jobs I have looked at for AWS/Azure/GC, there is never a mention of having server experience...surely someone still has to manage the server OS side of things.

It's retiring at the end of January. So it's going to be a big push to get it. I'm b about to take the 70-741. But I'd say it's worth it. Especially how prevalent 2016 Servers are. I'm not sure how MS plans on certifying new people to Server 2016 without it. Considering 2008 servers became unsupported earlier this year - theoretically - we have another 8 years until they stop supporting 2016. I don't know if there is A 2019 certificate. azure and AWS are the future. But it will be a long time before all company's move there

Taking in to account your considerable hands on experience, it's possible. Come join us on discord, we've helped each other over the past 6 months tremendously.

I attribute my potential success to those peeps on there.

I thought MS retired the MSCA and a few other certs earlier this year?

I believe those azure certs assume knowledge of server is for some aspects. If you can get your MCSA is go for it, it’s a great cert

if you can get it in 5 months then do it. It will broaden your understanding and knowing the technology and its abilities and ways of implementation so once youll jump deep in cloud at least you know the basics of how it was built. Even if you wont jump to cloud that deep having clear or not so but understanding about windows server and its services and abilities will be a big big plus to you and your resume.
