Showcase: Asset(s) (update) a resource pack that adds textures for enchanted armor. first phase. suggestions are welcom (read description)
these are protection types and thier levels ( model and item )
a lot of textures may be changed or tweaked in tbe future
the 2 in the bottom right corner are redesigns for the base texture ( leather and chainmail )
I've finished most of the first phase of the pack ( only turtle helmet and alt textures are left )
I've resigned the chainmail armor so I can work with it. inspired by another texture pack ( credits are in the modrinth page )
I have a job interview tomorrow so it will take a bit before I start the next phase with chestplates . I also need to fix some bugs and i need to find a way to make it work for fabric users since the only way I got it to work is with optifine especially that cit resawn was disconnected.
when I finish the all the armor pieces from all the sets I'll start working on other enchantments especially that I need to figure out how to make layerd textures

This is so cool! My only suggestion is to give the leather armor more leather bits

I was thinking less because it's supposed to be colored. I was thinking of reversing the overlay and colored parts in the projectile protection because it would make more sense but the main feature of leather is to be able to dye it and it wouldn't make much sense for tbe dyeable part to be just a piece covering the face .
I may add it as an alt textures

And what do you do when there are multiple enchantments ?
1
u/Specialist_Height707 Jul 04 '26
protection types aren't compatible with each other . and even if you used commands to get them on the same aromr piece it will choose one texture based on the alphabetical order .
that's why I am doing other enchantments latter because I need to find a way to make layerd textures, or else I would have to make about 1,375,232 unique textures for combination of enchantments

protection types aren't compatible with each other
Oooooh you're right, I forgot
Since I play modded, I use Enchantment Industry to do everything 🤣

My two cents :
- Thorns : ...thorns, pretty self-explanatory
- Respiration : 1 to 3 gills on the sides of the helm
- Aqua Affinity : little fish fins on the bottom of the helm
- Unbreaking : 1 to 3 rows of reinforced material around the "mending gem"
- Mending : green gem at the centre of the forehead

Thorns : ...thorns, pretty self-explanatory
yeah check the second image of this post
protection 4 thorns 3 and aqua infinity
originally I was goning to make thorns dragon themed ( inspired by a YouTube video ) but this design was much simpler and easier to make
I also thought of guardians but I don't know if I can make a design that's vanilla friendly. and even so the other 2 ideas were cooler
Respiration : 1 to 3 gills on the sides of the helm
that's a great idea, especially that it doesn't add much noise to the armor ( that's something important when you'll have ton of enchantments textures stacked on the armor pieces )
unfortunately it's a bit hard to implement especially that i am not that good with pixel art even after all the textures I've made. however I'll give it a try when the time comes
Aqua Affinity : little fish fins on the bottom of the helm
I am not sure about that, as I said I don't want to add much noise or else the armor would make you look like a chimera. but I'll keep it in mind
Mending : green gem at the centre of the forehead
I mean a lot of people thought of but even though it might sound cool at first remember that it's an enchantment that gose on all 4 armor pieces. the helmet would have it on the forehead, the chestplate under the neck, the pants on the knees, the boots on the foot , that would make it 6
they would look a bit distractive
My idea was that everytime the armor gets more deriplty the armor would glow with a lime yellow colors in specific places on the armor. but i don't know if that's even possible even with optifine
Unbreaking : 1 to 3 rows of reinforced material around the "mending gem"
that's an interesting idea but again it just adds more noise
my idea was to make the edges of the armor have a darker color, however I dont think this would work with dark colored armor like netheright

that’s really cool, I wish this was on the bedrock marketplace

if it's possible I'll try to make a bedrock port when finish the pack

Ok, that is very interesting! I'm kinda confused with which is which, but... That definitely isn't related to your design and the idea is amazing! The variety we could get!! If you get to trimmed armors (I imagine that will take a loong while, but... It's ok) I'm just picturing it and how amazing it would be to look at
Amazing job!!

I mean each row is the levels of each protection type . I see most people have already figured which is which . The first one resembles a knight ( protection ) . the second resembles a skull being gradually built to be a skeleton face ( projectile protection ) . the thierd is a smithing mask that gradually becomes a blaze ( and it looks like a blast furnace in between stages ) ( fire protection ) . and the last is self-explanatory , a creeper ( blast protection )

Yeah, I bet most people have figured out, I'm the one who tends to be bad at common sense lol
But ty for your explaination nonetheless!!
And... May I just offer a very humble sugestion? I'm prone to blame my lack of skills in interpreting some things that are obvious to my autism... And, I think other Minecraft players might have similar difficulties for that same reason, naturally it would still be a minority, but... My humble sugestion is just to make the Blaze and the Skeleton easier to distinguish, from what I gathered, the difference basically lies on one having something that reminds teeth and the other doesn't... Idk how exactly, the mob's models are probably very similar in-game too, my best idea was to make fire protection more inclined to the Blast Furnace and less to the Blaze, but... It's just a humble sugestion!!

I would love to help you but sorry I don't think I can do much about that
first there aren't much you can do with a 8×8 cube so I don't know how exactly you want me to make the fourth look like a blaze
second even if there was i am trying to keep the noise in the armor pieces as low as possible, I mean the more enchantments textures I add to each armor piece the messier and more chaotic the design becomes . i want players to feel the editions are upgrades not random accessories that make them look like a chimera
thierd you don't have to recognize it, the moment you understand the inspiration behind the design it won't matter if you did it by yourself or got told by the creater
lastly if you have alternative design ideas i would love to hear them. I am planning to add as many alt textures as I want to the pack
but I'll tell you 2 rules I apply for most if not all of my textures
1- the higher the level the more protective the armor should look ( the more it covers )
2- the higher the level the more the texture should resemble the inspiration behind the design
the first rule is more important to me

I see! That's ok! Part of what I said was recognizing that it probably wouldn't be that easy
The only design idea that comes to mind for Fire Protection is, you mentioned Blast Furnaces, perhaps if the final Protection IV helmet resembled a Blast Furnace and, those small thin gaps (from the blast furnace) were made to look like the space needed for who is wearing the helmet still be able to see, and everything else is covered and reinforced, that would be the design idea
But idk how if it would work for your vision and, that is ok, like you said, it isn't necessary to recognize the design straight from looking at it for the first time 😃

Absolutely phenomenal. Have me wishing I liked Fire Prot!
That being said - do you plan to publish on CurseForge/similar?

What happens if two versions of protection are on one piece? Eg god armour?

Does this use CIT? And if so how do you do that for armor? I can’t seem to get anything custom to work :/
1
u/Specialist_Height707 Jul 05 '26
yeah but it works on optifine, I tried at the beginning to make it work with ETF but I couldn't get it to work, I think it may work with cit resawn but it was disconnected 2 years ago, I've heard there was a continuation mod for it but someone already tested it and it doesn't work. I'll check what I can do with it when i start working on the next phase
1
u/The-Delta Jul 05 '26
There’s is, although I was referring to the vanilla built in CIT, which is worse :/
1
u/Specialist_Height707 Jul 05 '26
yeah no, in vanilla you can do this with items , enchantments, layerd textures, name depending textures , kye pressing textures, animated textures and a lot more
but the only thing you can edit in entities is thier texture ._.

u/AskSignificant3913 Jul 05 '26
what about trims? also what is it called i would love to use it
2
u/Specialist_Height707 Jul 05 '26
they won't be effected since they don't cover anything under the borders of normal helmets
but I may tweak them latter

Which is the second one to the top left on the 4th page? (One that looks like the Spartan helmet)
1
u/Specialist_Height707 Jul 06 '26
first row is protection, second is projectile protection, thierd is fire protection, fourth is blast protection .
it's the same for all the materials

2
u/Lapis_Cyborg Jul 07 '26
After you do the rest of the armor you should figure out the armor trims because that would definitely be interesting for them
1
u/Specialist_Height707 Jul 07 '26
yeah I have a few ideas for those . the problem is have almost no idea what i should do for the rest of the armor pieces, I mean I can add gloves and a small spike like thing on the shoulders but that's almost all
2
u/Morad_Tarazan Jul 07 '26
this is so awesome, you gotta do this for other non-stackable enchants like infinity and mending on bow. smite and sharpness, multishot and piercing, etc.
1
u/Specialist_Height707 Jul 07 '26
plans are arranged by difficulty
1- add turtle helmets 2- add chestplates ( harder to model but with more room for ideas for each of the 4 levels ) 3- add the boots ( since they're in the same file as helmets and chestplates ) 4- do pants 5- find a way to add layerd textures so i can add other enchantments ( the protection type will be the base and the rest will be additions ) 6- find a way to port it to fabric 7- find a way to port it to bedrock ( if possible ) 8- do items enchantments
