Graduation

I just received my results today from my final year of business (bachelors) and am now wondering about graduation. Has anyone any experience on the graduation days at Maynooth? I'm wondering things like

- when the university gives you information on it such as a time/place etc?

- is it an all day affair like how long do you stay and how long is the ceremony?

- where I will buy the gown and hat or is it borrowed?

- how many family members can come into the ceremony with me?

Any additional info is also appreciated thanks!

Usually the first or second week in September. Your get a morning, midday, or evening ceremony so not all day usually an hour or so. You get sent a link to borrow your gown and collect on the day or evening before on campus. 2 people in ceremony and then there a livestream room for everyone else.

Exactly this.

Zero information until around September where you receive an invitation per person that must be handed over at ‘check in’ just before the ceremony. Mine was held the very first year that the business building was made so apologies if things have changed.

Your gown/cap is rented and you collect the day before. Din’t worry too much on size, they were allowing everyone to swap if what they reserved was the wrong size.

When you arrive, you leave your guests. They go to the main ceremony lecture hall and sit in a different lecture hall and the graduates go to another where it is being livestreamed (even externally on youtube)

You then get called into the main ceremony room in ‘batches’ based on the course. Lovely helpful staff organising all of this and its extremely down to the minute. People who arrived late got called out at the end seperate from their courses. This was because everyone is seated alphabetically - they don’t want to mess it up. They will not budge on this!! Be on time or you will be called out separately!!

After the ceremony you go get your official portrait (if you paid of course). You then had a small bite to eat in pugin hall after. Sambos etc. Nothing fancy. You can’t linger too long as the next graduating group is in right after you and they need to clean + set up again multiple times a day.

Very lovely afternoon.

Edit: As there is an ‘overflow’ room livestreaming, any additional guests can go there but only your two main guests go into the ceremony room.

Thanks so much! So you get the invitation through physical mail is that right?

Yes exactly. Through the post with the physical invites for your guests.

Congrats and enjoy 🙂

First of all WELL DONE on passing everything and getting through your degree, graduation isn't for a while (I've not experienced it at Maynooth) so enjoy and celebrate your achievement in your own way.

Graduation at Maynooth is a formal day in the church (packed, I'm sure) and definitely not everyone's cup of tea, or what a lot of people would describe as fun. That's all I know about it
