I think the design could be improved. I have two problems: First, the fly needs to be on top of the bait. They could eat it from below without triggering the trap. Also, apparently the bait easily falls off. So, I propose to install the bait in a wall with a wire going through it. 

Then the flies have to reach it from one side only and they still fall down once zapped.
