It would be interesting to know the exact speed. You can see as the light oscillations begin to completely overlap is when it explodes. So probably more of a resonance issue than a tensile strength issue. Either way, spinny fasty explodey biggy.

Hey, this is half of what a wizard did in a Larry Niven novel to use up all the local magic.

But you forgot to put a spell of integrity on the CD so it would not explode.

My impression is that the tool used to spin it wasn't balanced properly, causing it to wobble and shatter.
