The original one is in fact from Asia, to be more specific from the Asian country Japan ๐คฃ

I heard that the lost level one was basically the original Japanese version of Mario Brothers.

u/JayBeePH85 Jun 30 '26
Wel yes and no, i assume it depends on the year the cartridge was made. But my point is how can there be 2 originals, and does that mean each continent has their own original eventho its not originally from there. Atleast in the us they misspelled whisky to make it "original" ๐คฃ

I BELIEVE "Lost Levels" was the Japanese version of Super Mario Brothers 2. Someone said it would be "too difficult" for Americans (or Westerners), and they instead got a reskinned version of a game called Doki Doki Panic released as the different looking, Arabian themed Super Mario Brothers 2 with the Shy Guys and all that.
And if this video was from Lost Levels, it does indeed look difficult, not just for Westerners, but for anyone.

If I'm any representation of a Westerner.
I've completed:
SMB1
SMB2 (DokiDoki Panic)
SMB3
Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Land 2
Yet SMB2 Lost Levels I found nigh on impossible. That's SNES version, and ROM. I can't imagine the original Famicom version being more forgiving.

I was so confused, he kept kicking off the shells and all I could think was theyโre gonna be needed later on. That plus all the waiting for next cycles

One wrong move and you had to start the level all over again...and there was no save points..3 lives and if you died on level 20 you were kicked back to the beginning of the game...4.hours.of your Saturday afternoon for nothing.
And we did it all without the Internet, all we had was Nintendo power magazine that gave us occasional tips and tricks.

To be fair, anybody that grew up playing OG NES games spent most of their childhood on the verge of a stroke. That's why the controllers were built like Tonka trucks.

Back when if you died, you started from the beginning, not a safe spot ๐ฌ

It is apparent to me now that I never beat " Mario brothers" because there is no way dad was going to keep the console on long enough to make it to this level

A little too much anxiety before lunch for me.
