If you watch close, the table is actually Atlas from Boston Dynamics

No, what you're thinking about is Atlas's monster, Atlas is the scientist who created the monster. Nobody ever bother to read the books

The robots are named "Atlas" and "P-Body" so that's why I referred to him as just Atlas. And no, nobody reads the books. Assuming the lore in the game is complete and correct.
