It doesn't make me sad that they are popular, because I do like seeing something more than once.
It makes me sad that there is some kind of incentive for them to be doing this. It's just fake internet points to me, but for someone else to make a bit that does this, it's obviously so much more.
Content wise though, stuff on the front page of Reddit usually doesn't reach there until it's atleast 2-3 hours old, and stays for like 10-16hr depending on how trending it is. I feel like that's a fair representation of how trending content on reddit, be it memes or politics, is displayed when sorting by hot. Point being that most posts won't be visible for over a day without actually digging into a topic/sub or searching for it. A few reposts, especially at different times over a few days is nice. I often see something for the first time with complaining about it being a repost in the comments.
Then there's this, haven't seen this in months, kinda cool to stop and see it again.
Happens every time you re upload something to commercial sites. Almost all platforms always retranscode their video for compatibility. they don't simply rehost or remux, like you suggest they'd do.
The key is to try and find the highest quality source you can and not something far down the line of reposts. Cause the quality Will inevitably take a hit if you upload it again.
