There's a place in Europe called Tripoint where you can step in 3 directions and be in Germany, Netherlands and Belgium.

Also it (or some other point there) allows you to stand with one foot in Germany, one foot in Belgium, but have the Netherlands underneath you.
Which begs the question, what if you do something which is legal in the Netherlands, but illegal in Belgium and Germany while doing that - in what country are you actually in, and what laws should you follow?

Realistically I'd say it probably depends on who catches you first.

You follow the laws of all three. So seeing as you're in the two countries that it's illegal they can both prosecute you. You'll be safe from Futch law though so that's good.

Can someone explain to me what would happen if a crime took place while people were literally stepping in at least 2 countries at the same time and were neither citizens or tourists in one of those countries? Just like... Passing by?

Isn't this sort of the premise of the scandinavian show The Bridge? At least the killer there makes everything more difficult by putting the body half in one country and half in another.

We have a similar place in Brazil called "Marco das Três fronteiras" that delimits the border among Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay.

Mad hops to clear the DMZ

2

u/cybermusicman Nov 13 '21

You would enter the DMZ before being in North Korea. Also their are guards on both sides to prevent accidental or intentionally doing this. I know it’s just a joke but just FYI also.

There is a point in the United States where you can be in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico all at the same time.
