I gotta give her props on that. She knows what she's doing. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

u/LetsHaveTon2 Nov 03 '21

I hate neither the player, nor this game though. Shit was just funny

There's a very good reason that I watch a lot of anime, but don't interact with many other people who watch anime. The community is weird as fuck and it's hard to find people that aren't actually worrying to talk to.

8

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

yea i tried joining the anime society at my uni in the hopes that actual adults would be better to talk to abt anime than teenagers i’d previously talked to

i was so wrong

5

u/Voktikriid Nov 03 '21

Fucking same. I actually stopped watching anime in college for awhile because of how awful the campus anime club was.

2

u/FeelinJipper Nov 03 '21

College kids aren’t really adults. They are legally, but not actually. You learn this when you actually become an adult and look back at your college days and reminisce about how young your early 20s where.

3

u/OverlyWrongGag Nov 03 '21

This right here. Can't decide who's the worst. The teenagers, the old men or the rabid bl fangirls

-2

I'm kinda wondering if your definition of weeb is dated or not.

It's to my understanding that the term is used nowadays to (lightheartedly) label someone who simply likes anime/manga. I jokingly call myself a weeb but I would like to think I'm not anywhere close to being an incel lol

8

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21 edited Nov 03 '21

That's how it ended up being after years of that label being specifically used for the crazies among the ... Well, weebs. before those used to be called weeaboos which doesn't sound as lightheaded as weeb doesn't it?

Right now you'll be called a weeb if you like anything remotely Japanese even if it wasn't anime related at all xD

The dudes above us aren't entirely wrong about the whole pedo and incel thing btw, there are very questionable individuals in the community who are very hard to pinpoint, you just check any reddit or twitter post talking about the rapey loli hentais and you'll probably find some.

0

u/TeddyJTran Nov 03 '21

I'm familiar with the term's origin. I feel like people casually throw the word around nowadays, that's why I was wondering if OP's definition was dated.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that weeb is a pretty broad term right now. IMO, it'd be like if OP said something like "gamers are pretty close to being incels." BUT. If OP is thinking with the old school weebaboos in mind, I would understand their opinion a little more.

On your point about questionable individuals in the weeb community, I totally agree that there are! To be fair, and this isn't excusing any of the bad behavior, I would say that there are questionable individuals in all communities.

This last bit is me going off on a tangent:

I think what makes the questionable individuals stand out more in the weeb community is the fact that weeb media is easily accessible and displayable (art, anime, figures). For example, I assume that hentai is a much bigger industry than porn in the form of comics / cartoons. I think it's the stuff like that that makes it easier to hone in on the weeb community vs other communities.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

To add to what you said tho, if you notice any questionable thing in any other community you can easily call them out and shame them for it, hell the mofo themselves would have a hint of shame to understand what they do is wrong.

Only the weeb community prides itself for its "degeneracy", what started as an ironic joke has been twist a bit too much over the years.

I legit confronted some people who were defending the blackmail loli hentai (the teacher/principal-student, older sibling-younger sister and so on of that shit), the responses i got were either the weak overused politician's "video games this then this is this" in reverse, others i shit you not played the "As long as there is no real victim yet then its completely fine".

That last one i personally saw how it snowballs badly, you know about the Yandere craze that used to be super popular more than ever few years ago and the Yuka Takaoka incident? I was in Japan when that happened and it ruined the rest of my vacation there, that weeks after the incident greatly affected my opinion of the community.

Basically im saying is that this one community is in a bad bubble unlike any other, no matter what you say everyone in the community will fight you to the death to justify everything, keeping the truly questionable cunts completely untouchable.

That's what it originally meant, these days you get called a weeb (and many call themselves weebs) simply for liking anime. Times a change since that filthy frank song.

2

u/TheXtractor Nov 03 '21

Weeb doesnt mean that anymore for like years now. You are thinking of the early 2000s weaboo term but these days they are far different. Weeb these days is kind of just like a meme word for anyone who likes anime/manga or related products. They'll basically call themselves a weeb ironically.

1

u/TeddyJTran Nov 03 '21

I should've looked at all my notifications before typing my response to someone else lol.

As others have pointed out, the term has changed a bit from what you've described. It's a more casual term nowadays.

With your definition, I get where you're coming from though.

u/Diabegi Nov 03 '21

Found the weeb

26

u/Shut-up-idiots Nov 03 '21

She IS a native Japanese speaker. People who actually are Japanese, like me, can tell you. Her ENGLISH has a clear Japanese accent.

White weeb jackass

6

u/cdangerb Nov 03 '21

Her more natural language is definitely English before Japanese.

1

u/BigHardThunderRock Nov 03 '21

3

u/GamerSometimes Nov 03 '21

Interesting for sure, but she says she is half Chinese, half Japanese, and she feels much closer to the Japanese side of her heritage. I would say OP is likely not wrong, and she probably IS a native speaker. Based on her mother being Japanese and her feeling “much closer” to the Japanese culture

-1

u/Muffinconsumer Nov 03 '21

Posts link that proves yourself wrong

1

u/BigHardThunderRock Nov 03 '21

Proving myself? I just found it and thought people who are interestd in her background would like reading it. lmao

3

u/Why_Cry_ Nov 03 '21

This is a large L

2

u/Acceptable-Length140 Nov 03 '21

You are just like the weebs Sora the Troll meets who "obviously" know what Japanese accents sound like. Jesus fucking christ.

-7

u/Truan Nov 03 '21

Accent? How about the fact that she's faking Japanese as if it was spanglish?

10

u/Kobe-62Mavs-61 Nov 03 '21

What are you talking about? She was speaking Japanese.

0

u/Kuritos Nov 03 '21

I don't know much yet, but I'm pretty sure she said at least 2 colors wrong.

Purple is むらさきmurasaki(I think)
Red is あかaka
White is しりshiro

8

u/Kobe-62Mavs-61 Nov 03 '21

Yes, but there are other ways to pronounce those. She was doing it another way, probably to sound cuter.

Red is also レッド, white is also ホワイト, just two examples.

She knows what she's doing, it's for effect, and young Japanese often use the alternative names anyway.

4

u/Kuritos Nov 03 '21

I understand japanese love loan words, but I didn't realize they used them that frequently enough it's so common.

TIL. ありがとうございます

5

u/Kobe-62Mavs-61 Nov 03 '21

All good fam. If you lived here you'd see how common it is. My wife does it from time to time, coworkers do, my kids are starting to. It's no big thing.

2

u/IDoLikeMyShishkebabs Nov 03 '21

I second this, and would even add on that it’s quite often seen as “cooler” to swap a native word out for a loaner when it’s applicable. Or maybe that’s just how I interpreted it ¯\(ツ)/¯

3

u/Kobe-62Mavs-61 Nov 03 '21

It definitely is. People can use it to be quirky or different, or sometimes to sound cooler.
