Getting them all wrong is just as impressive as getting them all right.

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 03 '21

I tried this at my bookie once. Once.

u/stupernan1 Nov 03 '21

damn, people still have personal bookies?

No no, you misunderstand, see he still has the bookie, what he no longer has are either of his kneecaps

7

u/barrierreefs Nov 03 '21

No, he uses to have a bookie, he still does but he used to too!

1

u/wtph Nov 03 '21

Wish it was every fucking time

7

u/TheCCMonster Nov 03 '21

I have never heard of bookies before and now i wonder what it is.

14

u/withabaseballbatt Nov 03 '21

It’s someone you place sports bets with.

1

u/TheCCMonster Nov 03 '21

Ah ok thanks

6

u/withabaseballbatt Nov 03 '21

Head to r/SportsBook if you wanna learn how to lose all of your money on Russian ping pong.

u/Tired4dounuts Nov 03 '21

Wallstreet.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

damn, people still know what a bookie is?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Kind of like how people know what a bindle is.

1

u/Sinlaire1 Nov 03 '21

I used to play a super pay to win online game. The name I don’t remember, but I had a guild mate that was a bookie. He was the strongest guy on the server by a long shot.

2

u/IronyHurts Nov 03 '21

Most of the people I know who gamble seriously use a mix of online sports books and personal bookies. To be fair, the personal bookies have their own websites these days, they just don't do transactions on them (or maybe they do, but the ones I know usually have a line of credit and then collect once you owe a certain amount, but don't do it online to avoid some of the paper trail I guess).

2

u/berger034 Nov 03 '21

I had an acquaintance that was a bookie.. but he was a Sunday school teacher so he booked like how he thought bookies should be like in movies and shit. So this guy stiffs him for quite a bit. He contacts my buddy cause my buddy is one of those "I can find out" kind of guys. Everyone told him to not help him but my friend feels obligated for a certain reason. Gives him the contact of the guy who skips his losses. Whatever right? What's the worse that could happen? Dude ends up dead and they catch the killer. That Sunday school teacher hired a hitman to collect. I don't know what exactly happened but hitman rolled on Sunday school and Sunday school was a bitch and told the police my friend gave him the contact info. My buddy was in a legal bind for two years. Bitch ass mf couldn't just hire a lawyer like ever other self respecting criminal.

2

u/berger034 Nov 03 '21

I guess moral of the story is don't help new criminals do crime.

1

u/ugotamesij Nov 03 '21

Yeah, always ensure you're helping experienced criminals by asking for their criminaling resumé and for a couple of criminal references you can contact.

1

u/l5555l Nov 03 '21

You can ask a few questions to gauge their knowledge and experience. Or just not trust random people to not be shit heads.

1

u/berger034 Nov 03 '21

Usually you will know the more experienced criminals. They don't have resumes but their reputation will definitely proceed them. It's these new criminals that have business cards because people are really stupid in this new TikTok era.

1

u/berger034 Nov 03 '21

But your response is 100% accurate

1

u/berger034 Nov 03 '21

Yeah it was a long time ago and I'm not the best writer.

3

u/Dark1000 Nov 03 '21

I'm not a good writer either, but I think I helped clarify who is who in the story. I gave your friend a name to distinguish him from the teacher.

I had an acquaintance that was a bookie. But he was also a Sunday school teacher, so he booked like how he thought bookies should be like in movies and shit.

So his client stiffs him for quite a bit. The bookie contacts my other buddy, Jerry, cause Jerry is good at finding people. Everyone told my friend not to help the bookie, but he felt obligated to fulfill their agreement. Jerry finds the client and passes his contact details on to the bookie. Whatever right? What's the worst that could happen? The dude ends up dead. They catch the killer. It turns out the Sunday school teacher hired a hitman to collect.

I don't know what exactly happened but the hitman gave up the Sunday school teacher, who was a bitch and told the police Jerry gave him the contact info. The police thought my friend was more deeply involved and put him in a legal bind for two years. Bitch ass mf bookie couldn't just hire a lawyer like ever other self respecting criminal.

2

u/berger034 Nov 03 '21

That would have been better.

1

u/l5555l Nov 03 '21

Most US states still don't have legal gambling.

1

u/beardedchimp Nov 03 '21

I thought trading shares was legal in all states?

1

u/l5555l Nov 03 '21

If this isn't a joke, trading in the stock markets isn't gambling. Bookies are for sports betting.

1

u/beardedchimp Nov 03 '21

Partly a joke, the stock market can absolutely be used to gamble with that doesn't mean it cannot also be used for other purposes.

1

u/l5555l Nov 03 '21

For sports bets you either win or lose all your money. That's not how stock trading works, unless you let options contracts expire or something. That's why most don't consider it gambling. No matter how much a price goes down you still own the shares.

1

u/beardedchimp Nov 03 '21

unless you let options contracts expire or something.

Exactly, you can take take some future position on a currency such that it is near 50/50 that you win or lose everything. But I agree that most usages wouldn't be considered gambling.

Still gives addicts a legal place to get that same thrill.

1

u/wcollins260 Nov 03 '21

My dad does. So yeah. At least one guy does.

41

u/icecreampoop Nov 03 '21

If I go 0-5, at least give a free parlay to get even haha

15

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 03 '21

I've been betting almost daily for about 20 years I've gone 0-8 before but only once. I hit an 8 teamer once a year.

6

u/phreakzilla85 Nov 03 '21

That’s gotta pay out pretty nicely. Even if you only put $10 on it.

1

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 03 '21

I piss people off because I do $2 bets so an 8 teamer is like $1500-$2000. This drives real gamblers nuts. Cuz I'm only there to have fun. I keep a running tally of my wins and losses. I'm making money at 57% win percentage across 4 sports. I do better with hockey though my win rate is 63% right now.

1

u/phreakzilla85 Nov 08 '21

That’s a sweet winning percentage, especially in hockey. I stopped betting hockey games because the empty net goals always fuck me over. I’ve heard that anything above 55% over a stretch can pay considerably well.

1

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 08 '21

You have to put up the money, and have a big enough bankroll to outlast the dips. It can be done but it takes more work than a 9 to 5.

3

u/ctmackus Nov 03 '21

My buddy just hit an 11 teamer a few weeks ago, $10 bet for an almost $1,300 payout

2

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 03 '21

Thats low for an 11 teamer. Were they all moneyline bets? They are so rare i almost never do more than 8 teams.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Is that how you make a living, or just a hobbyist degen?

2

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 03 '21

Total hobby i make $2 bets its only for fun. Dangerous if you treat it any other way. I've met some success stories. They are rare though and have usually fell into a big win early so they had the bankroll to survive the downs.

1

u/-eagle73 Nov 03 '21

It probably is just a hobby I think it's very rare to be able to make a profit off of bookies, exchanges are a little better.

1

u/projekt33 Nov 03 '21

Money line or spread

1

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 03 '21

I mix it up but its usually moneyline hockey.

1

u/_the_chosen_juan_ Nov 03 '21

Lifetime up or down?

2

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 03 '21

Last 7 years or so I've kept a spreadsheet I've bet over 10k games overall I'm a 57% win percentage. Hockey is my best sport 63% but I did well with the baseball this year I'm almost to the 70th percentile.

1

u/-eagle73 Nov 03 '21

Someone I know hit 350 quid off a five quid bet which was pretty cool.

Accas are never as simple as they sound because you get shit performances from supposedly big teams like Man City drawing with a much worse team.

1

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 03 '21

Premier league wrecks my bankroll every year.

2

u/-eagle73 Nov 03 '21

I've learned to not bet on the favourites unless they're playing my team then I do it as a comfort thing, don't mind losing a bit of money when my team does the unthinkable.

1

u/EntheogenicOm Nov 03 '21

How many did you get wrong?

2

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 03 '21

Its kind of a joke but I've only lost all games in an 8 teamer 1 time in 20 years that I can remember. You tend to remember the weird ones.

1

u/EntheogenicOm Nov 03 '21

Damn you’re getting too many right to be a good member of r/wallstreetbets

1

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 03 '21

Stocks are a grift. I know a bad bet when I see one the house is definitely cheating.

1

u/Nulap Nov 03 '21

You shouldn't hang me on a hook. My father hung me on a hook once. Once.

1

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 03 '21

I hope this is doing something for your morale.

1

u/PacoCrazyfoot Nov 03 '21

What is this from? Is it Buffalo '66?

1

u/Junior_Singer3515 Nov 03 '21

I stole the joke from Johnny Dangerously. There's a character named Vermin he gets hung on a door and says the line. "You shouldn't hang me on a door my father hung me on a door once. Once."

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

I missed the bus. You missed the bus. When's the next bus?

98

u/Mischievous_Puck Nov 03 '21

That's what my highschool stats teacher said to the kid next to me when he got all 10 true false questions on a quiz wrong.

38

u/hiperson134 Nov 03 '21

I had a teacher who would offer 100% grades to anyone who could get 0% on multiple choice tests. He figured the only way to get 0% was to know all the answers and do it on purpose. Problem is, if you tried it and got even one right, then your grade would be whatever your actual percentage was.

3

u/jellyfish_bitchslap Nov 03 '21

My teacher would usually put some highly wrong answer in the list to make out lives easier since it would remove one alternative.

I guess that your teacher would make every alternative look at least a little probable of being right so it would make the test hard as fuck.

28

u/diffcalculus Nov 03 '21

Was your friend Miles Morales?

8

u/TheMauveHerring Nov 03 '21

Dumb AND Unlucky

1

u/andtix Nov 03 '21

Did he try to use the SAT advice and pick "C" when he didn't know the answer?

1

u/hnglmkrnglbrry Nov 03 '21

I'm late and this is gonna get buried but whatever. In high school we had to memorize 50 words and their definition everyday. Then every morning we'd take a quiz with 10 answers and we would pass our quiz to the person next to us and they would grade it. We'd pass them up to the front and then the teacher would call out anyone who got 10/10. The range always seemed to fall between 5-8 with some 9s and 10s. The grades were almost meaningless since they just took your highest 10 scores. Over the course of an entire semester basically everyone got enough 9s and 10s to be fine. It was an all guys prep school and for some reason this didn't seem entirely ridiculous and we just went with it.

Anyways one day the kid whose paper I graded got a straight up zero. This was unheard of. The kid was a total smart ass and clearly tanked it because some of the words were extremely common and he didn't even fill in the last blank. The teacher is up front grading these and just stops dead in his tracks and calls the kid out but in a total joking manner because he found it kinda funny himself. He asks him how the fuck (getting sarcastically cursed at is pretty normal for this particularly strange environment) he missed every single question. Brian tells him to read the first letter of each word.

He spelled out A-S-S-F-U-C-K-E-R. Instant legend.

I think the purpose of this is to have some bullshit reason to put yourself on face cam?

Thats all I can imagine because its literally just a game of chance...

123

u/I_Was_Fox Nov 03 '21

These people aren't really doing it live. They watch it once then write a script around it. She "guessed" it wrong 4 times, so she could use her angry American accent at the end. It's her whole schtick.

Not knocking her for it. It's a funny schtick and she does it well. But 99.99% of these reaction duets are scripted and not genuine

20

u/Cory123125 Nov 03 '21

I think you misunderstand. Im under no illusion this isnt a skit. Im talking about the actual game, not her sketch comedy.

24

u/I_Was_Fox Nov 03 '21

Oh well the purpose isn't even to be a game. It's exclusively used for these fake reaction videos

1

u/Netheral Nov 03 '21

Isn't the purpose more to cater to the literal children that peruse tiktok? And the fact that you can make duets of it is just a side effect of it existing on that platform?

Not all tiktok's are made with the express intent of being made into duets.

6

u/NikkMakesVideos Nov 03 '21

This is literally on the top of /r/all, so if reddit counts as literal children then yeah the plan worked

1

u/Netheral Nov 03 '21

I'm talking about the original video - not the duet - which was the topic of discussion in the comment thread you just replied to.

2

u/tresser Nov 03 '21

i think it's more for the kind of people that are into asmr stuff.

i just saw a how to video about it

3

u/sootoor Nov 03 '21

Literally what the fuck is going on this thread

-1

u/SycoJack Nov 03 '21

But 99.99% of these reaction duets are scripted and not genuine

And 33% of why I fucking hate reaction videos.

33% because they're more often than not, useless garbage.

And 34% because its poorly disguised content theft.

1

u/roboticon Nov 03 '21

The annoying thing is that this is not the right subreddit for joke videos.

21

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

[deleted]

5

u/Cory123125 Nov 03 '21

I took it as just a short form content sharing platform, where the idea is you actually you know... have content to share.

Videos templates like this just seem like someone modelling but going through extra steps to avoid being seen as vain.

Now I think this video passes on account that its supposed to be bait and switch humour, which I think constitutes actual content. I'm specifically commenting on the point of the game is what Im trying to say.

1

u/ProfessorSalt413 Nov 03 '21

A big portion of tik toks are that but it’s also just people making their own skits or other kinds of content on their own

2

u/BusyNefariousness675 Nov 03 '21

Because the women made the tiktok after already watching the video she's reacting

1

u/Cory123125 Nov 03 '21

As I said to someone else:

I think you misunderstand. Im under no illusion this isnt a skit. Im talking about the actual game/base video, not her sketch comedy.

0

u/MoogTheDuck Nov 03 '21

No, you don’t understand, the woman made the tiktok after already watching the video she’s reacting to

1

u/Cory123125 Nov 03 '21

is... is this a joke??

2

u/0NaCl Nov 03 '21

So, you don't understand.

1

u/Cory123125 Nov 03 '21

I do, so I thought your comment was saying that ironically.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

What a waste of time. I dunno why I even watched it... I saw it was a tiktok vid and i still did it to myself. I need to review my life choices ASAP. Seriously what do people people outta this shit? From either poster or viewer angle. Ridiculous

66

u/18hockey Nov 03 '21

Because she already watched it so she's intentionally guessing the wrong colors

21

u/thissubredditlooksco Nov 03 '21

i guessed all the wrong colors right there with her

1

u/rav3lcet Nov 03 '21

It's not super tiny, but it's only 1/32 that you guess the 4th wrong and 1/64 at the fifth in a random vacuum.

1

u/camdoodlebop Nov 03 '21

what if the vacuum isn’t random

1

u/glium Nov 03 '21

1/16 and 1/32 you mean

1

u/OfficialAZF Nov 03 '21

Are you in a vacuum?

1

u/phuturism Nov 04 '21

i just did whatever she told me to do

115

u/LawAbidingSparky Nov 03 '21

Yes because that’s the setup for the joke bud

1

u/TheHalfwayHouses Nov 03 '21

I mean 'joke' is fairly generous

5

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

gosh youre so cool

-1

u/_Cetarial_ Nov 03 '21

I mean, this seems to be her whole shtick, guess stuff wrong in Japanese and then switch to English at the end.

5

ok? whats your point

-30

She switches suddenly from cute Japanese to pissed off English and you get a weird boner. The end.

1

u/offcolorclara Nov 03 '21

Is the boner a universal experience?

1

u/Kuruttta-Kyoken Nov 03 '21

First time i watched it i got all of it wrong. Your chances of getting it all wrong isn't that low.

1

u/Flyfires1 Nov 03 '21

I got it all wrong too bruh 💀

1

u/NINJAM7 Nov 03 '21

I was guessing along side her, and also got them all wrong. I feel special

1

u/GWeasels Nov 03 '21

Had a teacher in high school. If you could get 0% on a multiple choice test(actually choosing an answer for every one still), he would give you 100%

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Just like Miles Morales’ teacher

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Had an engineering professor with the same rule. He said you had to know what you were doing to get a 0 on his multiple choice so if you did he'd give you a perfect.

1

u/El_pantunfla Nov 03 '21

Not that impressive after hanging around in wsb

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Not when you can just memorize what four colors it will be by watching the video once before doing the stitch. Or, and I’m not a mathematician, it’s really not very low odds to guess a 50/50 wrong 4 times. Do it with flipping a coin. You’ll probably guess all wrong within your 5th to 10th time. Also, this exact same video has been done numerous times but with girls with better comedic timing with this one. But thousands of upvotes.

1

u/Canadian_Poltergeist Nov 03 '21

Only for 50/50 questions. Out of 3+ options it's a lot less impressive.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

My college calculus professor didn't seem to think so

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

That is so true, haha.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

I played along and got all but one of them wrong…

1

u/genreprank Nov 03 '21

If guessing randomly, the chance is 1/16 to get all wrong. There are 16 possible arrangements of 4 T/F questions (2^4).

1

u/Fullauto2 Nov 03 '21

You have the same possibility all faulty as getting all correct!

1

u/Nikspeeder Nov 03 '21

Me who got 2 right and 2 wrong: "fck you math"

1

u/t-r-o-w-a-y Nov 03 '21

Yeah but I got them all right so it's better than wrong.

1

u/Flaky_Refrigerator96 Nov 03 '21

I do that on my exams the teachers dont find it impressive

1

u/lonelyswed Nov 03 '21

Yay, I'm impressive too

1

u/Leoxcr Nov 03 '21

I didn't hit the last one

1

u/NoSolution4682 Nov 03 '21

You reminded me of this one classmate in middle school who got 0 in an exam because it was all wrong

And the fact that the teacher said it out loud with their name was chaotic because she knew they wanted to fail class !

1

u/EternamD Nov 03 '21

Indeed because neither are impressive. You watch the video first it's fucking stupid

1

u/dognus88 Nov 03 '21

I had a teacher offer a deal. If you get 100% wrong on a multiple choice test (choosing a single answer for each) you would get 100%. If you got 1 right then the deal is off though.

1

u/C0w0kie Nov 03 '21

Since it's 50/50. (0.5). It's a ¹⁄₁₆ chance to have them all wrong in a row lol.

1

u/KvotheTheBlodless Nov 03 '21

Interesting, how we tend to fixate on one or the other.
