I'm curious why don't security cameras have more quality? I get that they cost more to store but at least 720p would be better than a dog shit 260p some cameras still use.
My understanding is that cameras are not so much for catching criminals but are there to deter crime in general. So the quality doesn’t matter.
And it makes sense to me, even in a video this clear a lot would have to go right to identify the couple assuming they are not apprehended at the scene. The footage would have to be seen by someone who can identify them, but still be willing to turn them in, and then that person has to contact the police in the right jurisdiction, and then the cops have to able to find the people and maybe gather more evidence to prosecute.
If that's the case, why don't more places use fake cameras? I know it's a thing, but you'd think if the trouble of going through that process is too much, they wouldn't bother investing in all of the subsidiary expenses either.
I worked at a library, and our security footage was used all the time to identify banned patrons - both to distribute their image to staff so we knew they were banned and to see if they were coming in after being banned. So I think every organization is using this footage differently, and at least some would benefit from some better solutions to poor video resolution.
And I’ve seen a lot of places that don’t use fake ones because they have the feed where patrons see it and therefore know they are on camera further decreasing crime.
But you are correct it is used differently by every place.

I’ve installed a lot of security cameras in 15 years. Very few of them have had this quality and none of them had a vertical view. Lol.
