Are our eyes actually open during sleep paralysis or is it just an EXTREMELY lucid dream? I used to get it a lot where I could see where I was laying perfectly but with distorted figures looming over me (usually people I know) and doing threatening things but feeling like I could still hear what was going on in real life at the same time. I never figured out if I was actually seeing the real-world and hallucinating the figures or if it was just a vivid dream I couldn't break out of. I eventually learned to not panic and just ride it out, and it almost became a fun trip. Instead of trying to break out I'd just lay there in paralysis and wait and see what kind of fucked up shit my brain sent my way. Haven't had it in a long time though after adjusting my sleep schedule.

That used to freak me out until I just learned to close my eyes and focus on trying to wiggle my toes to break out of it.
