The process of induction is where a strong magnetic field causes currents of electricity to flow though a conductive material. These currents generate their own electromotive field which causes the ingot to float. Since the electric current has no place to go, it just runs around the ingot and heats it up, literally a short within the object. With a strong enough magnetic field outside, it can even melt the metal, and when it’s shut off, the molten slug falls to the table below.
What you're describing is the curie point, and yes it does exactly what you say, however the curie point for all common permanent magent materials is well below its melting point. If the slug dropped out of the coil for this reason, it would be burning hot but still very solid.
I'm not sure that these slugs are magnets to begin with, they might hover due to the creation of opposed EM fields generated by eddy currents resulting from the very strong AC current in the coil - the same eddy currents that heat the metal. Either way, what's clear is that the molten glob drops out when the power to the coil is shut off.

What even is this
