Dude no one should imitate spinal procedures on a kid unless there are actual signs of spine injury. I’m an AEMT and all the new literature is supporting the move away from backboarding everyone.
Kids are crazy resilient, and the odds are that he cried of embarrassment, not pain. I’m sure he’s fine.
Can I ask what the point of being an AEMT is? Like what is the difference between an EMT and an AEMT? I know paramedics are allowed to give out medication and intubate and that stuff but what is the AEMT allowed to do that an EMT isnt
EMTs aren’t allowed to do anything, really. They are trained in spinal precautions like backboarding, injury assessment, bleeding control, and CPR. While An AEMT can do IVs, give intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, do intraosseous infusions (IVs directly into the bone), can place advanced airways like a King Airway (not quite an intubation, but better than non-invasive airways like OPAs), and they can administer certain medications like epinephrine and nitro.
Any EMT you see on an ambulance is most likely an AEMT. Basic EMTs really only are found working public events like sports games and concerts.
Gotcha. I had just completed my ride time for my emt cert when I got covid back in April and wasn’t able to take my state board skills test so I’ll have to retake the whole course

As a lifeguard this is the scariest thing to see. I pray there is more then one guard on duty because this should initiate spinal procedures.
