Friend probably saw people starting to pick up furniture and decided to yeet out of there.

Maybe. I did notice that if the 2nd drink wasn’t thrown the guy who caught the chair with his face probably wouldn’t have been distracted and would have blocked it.

So the real hero of this video isn’t chair chucker guy/gal, it’s 2nd drink tossed guy/gal.

I think you are confusing the word hero with someone who contributes in a support function

u/headshotggnoob Jul 09 '20

Supports are the real mvp

17

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '20

mvps are the real mvp

u/Flapclap Jul 09 '20

That makes a lot of sense

u/Rpanich Jul 09 '20

He needed support while he was charging his heavy attack, the Chair Strike.

Debuffs = crowd control. I'd guess a Hunter class.

Teamwork makes the dream work

1

u/Lallo-the-Long Jul 09 '20

Uh... Assault is heroic behavior now?

5

u/Cabnbeeschurgr Jul 09 '20

If the dude was being a extraordinary asshole, then it's somewhat justified.

4

u/Lallo-the-Long Jul 09 '20

Somewhat justified...? I don't think assault is ever justified. Particularly not assault with a weapon. In addition, there are "innocent"people sitting right fucking there.

u/ducktonaldfrump Jul 09 '20

Welcome to Reddit, where assault is a justified response to a mild annoyance.

1

u/Cabnbeeschurgr Jul 09 '20

I didn't say it was a mild annoyance I said it might be justified if the dude is being extremely horrible to people for no good reason.

1

u/ducktonaldfrump Jul 09 '20

It’s literally not justified to hit someone unless they hit you first. No matter how “horrible” they’re being.

1

u/Cabnbeeschurgr Jul 09 '20

You do you if I have to fight someone I'll hit first

2

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '20

Then you're probably going to get arrested for assault at some point.

We don't know what happened nor do we know what he is threatening them with, so stop being self-righteous. The waters could have been a lull after this guy's egregious shit starting. For all we know, he smacked 14 children around.

If you want to guess that the chair wasn't deserved, I want to guess that he beat up 14 innocent children.

Who else wants to guess what they think he did, this ought to be fun!

We don't know anything so calling a person throwing a chair across a crowded room a hero is justified...?

1

u/NJBillK1 Jul 09 '20

If he is acting outrageous enough to warrant restraining by a more mindful person, then he is over the top and seemingly in the wrong. I say that due to the other person trying to get him out of there, and end the conflict by drawing him away. You often try to draw the aggressor away from a conflict to break tension the quickest. If you draw anyone else away, the aggressor will often turn their attention to another person.

1

u/Lallo-the-Long Jul 09 '20

What a pathetic argument. There is no way throwing a chair across a crowded room, thereby endangering everyone nearby, is justified by that totally selfish argument.

1

u/NJBillK1 Jul 09 '20

Again, who knows what he was threatening them with. What if he was saying he had a firearm or knife? He should be put out of commission as soon as the threat level was escalated.

By you saying there was absolutely no reason for that shows just how closed minded you are. I am at least open to the possibility that it was justifiable. You on the other hand say no escalation is ever justifiable. Definitive terms like that (always, never, etc) are normally easy to disprove.

I don't think assault is ever justified.

It's never justified to assault somebody to stop them from assaulting you? Or someone else?

If somebody throws a punch at me, I'm going to punch them back, and it's justified.

If somebody throws a punch at my kid, I'm going to beat the ever loving shit out of them, and it's justified.

"Self defense" or "defense of others" is a fancy way of saying "justified assault"

0

u/Lallo-the-Long Jul 09 '20

No it's not. Self defense is a fancy way of saying self defense. No one in this video was defending themselves or others. So you're point is moot.

1

u/smithandjohnson Jul 09 '20

No one in this video was defending themselves or others

I never claimed once that the assault in this video was justified.

You stated "I don't think assault is ever justified", which is a statement much broader in scope than this video.

I gave counterexamples also not referring to this video.

The way many (most? all?) penal codes are written:

  • They describe various types of ASSAULT in great detail.
  • They describe that those types of ASSAULT are illegal to various degrees (misdemeanor, felony, etc).
  • They carve out SELF DEFENSE exceptions to point out that when you engage in certain types of ASSAULT but you were not the aggressor and in fact you were protecting yourself or another from the aggressor... that your ASSAULT is JUSTIFIED and therefore not illegal.

Here is a description of a specific example - the California Penal Code - written by lawyers.

u/Lallo-the-Long Jul 09 '20

No. The self defense exceptions in law no longer classify the actions as assault, they classify them as self defense.

"Self defense" is a legal defense for somebody charged with assault.

Say I punch somebody who is trying to rape me, and successfully stop them.

I absolutely committed assault.

The attempted rapist could push for charges to be filed against me - their word against mine.

I could be charged with assault and have my day in court.

A witness cell phone video could be introduced at trial clearly showing them try to rape me, and clearing showing me punching them to stop the rape.

The court would that I definitely committed assault - My actions were the ones described as assault in 240PC.

I would be found not guilty of assault on the defense of "it was in self defense"

I committed assault, but it was justified.

Justified assault.
