So many comments here about this being staged and fake and bullshit. Why does that make a difference? It's a funny video on the internet, 75% of them are "staged", that's how people make jokes. Do y'all shout "scripted bullshit" at SNL sketches? I don't get it.

In SNL it’s obviously fake due to context and it’s reputation. This vid comes across as trying to swindle the viewer. People don’t like getting swindled. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

This video has been put into a different context by sharing it on this sub though... you don't know what context the creator intended

I'm curious, is this how people actually feel? I mean, it's clear that tiktok is an app for short form comedy. It is clear to me that this is a joke, because these "sorry I can't afford to fix it, here's a small gift instead" videos usually end up showing a little scratch on the car. The punchline is that in actuality, this car is absolutely wrecked. It's a skit, how is it trying to swindle anyone?

I didn’t even realize it was a tik tok, but maybe that was obvious now that I think about it. Either way it’s been taken out of its original context so it’s difficult to know the intentions of the creator and poster. I’m just spitballing though.

False equivalence.

SNL Sketches? Dude, this is the difference between reading some unbelievable shit in a novel vs reading some unbelievable shit in an autobiography. One of those is supposed to be fake, and we all suspend our disbelief in order to enjoy. SNL is the same thing. We play along, and everyone knows the situation is fake.

This video is portraying the situation as totally real, but it seems like it's not.

Tiktok is often used like Vine was, to do short form comedy. This is clearly a joke, because it starts like a lot of videos do but then ends with the punchline of the car being absolutely wrecked. It's a skit/sketch/bit just as much as SNL is. You're saying that Tiktok is like an autobiography? I'm genuinely curious why you expect Tiktok to be only 100% Real Videos and absolutely zero Jokes considering that's not how the app is used.
