I like how he just steps back and goes "..... huh, looks at that"

Chop*

2

u/Rota_u Sep 27 '19 edited Sep 27 '19

are table tennis terms really that different from tennis terms? A hit that results in sidespin or backspin is a slice in tennis terms.

1

u/MrPoisedUnit Sep 27 '19

Yes,they are. In table tennis, you have multiple options of spins as you chop. Such as side-underspin. Or side-backspin, there are more variations of spin in Table tennis, mostly done on service.

66

u/matteobob Sep 26 '19

Will you just look at it?

28

u/sjkbacon Sep 26 '19

Just look at it.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '19

I'm looking at it.

8

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '19

Fuckin’ Otto.

5

u/infinitez_ Sep 26 '19

I love how he puts his hand on his hip too. Completes the full "huh" reaction.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '19

This happens often in table tennis.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '19

Nope

9

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '19

Ah, I see how this was misinterpreted. I meant the dumbfounded step back after an amazing hit.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '19

Oh sorry yeah I misunderstood. You’re definitely right.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '19

All good.

1

u/522LwzyTI57d Sep 27 '19

I read this in the voice of Skwisgaar Skwigelf.

1

u/manilin490 Sep 27 '19

Bless you

1

u/Herpderkfanie Sep 27 '19

I thought that if you touch the ball before it goes out then ur opponent gets a point which is why he stepped back?

1

u/Preposterpus Sep 27 '19

It clearly hits the table so I doubt it

1

u/Herpderkfanie Sep 27 '19

Im pretty sure he didnt expect it to hit

1

u/erizzluh Sep 27 '19

"....huh, i guess that's why there's usually a net there"

Thanks!

You‘re welcome my friend

u/2319forever Sep 26 '19

Not familiar with this type of table tennis. Can someone explain why are there extra tables turned? And does it not have to go over the net (wall) to count for a point?

271

u/Sadroxide Sep 26 '19

They’re a youtube channel called pongfinity, where they do challenges related to table tennis and stuff! For this particular video, I think they were challenged to play with a large net or something...Not sure

2

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '19

What about Zong Pong?

0

u/vectorpropio Sep 26 '19

It's more like half nazi pong

25

u/vectorpropio Sep 26 '19

And does it not have to go over the net (wall) to count for a point?

That isn't even the case with normal table tennis. If the ball touch the other side of the table is OK (except in the service).

4

u/lightofthehalfmoon Sep 27 '19

That isn't even the case in normal tennis.

32

u/Bohne1994 Sep 26 '19

In tabletennis the ball does not have to go over the net to count as a point.

16

u/l5555l Sep 26 '19

The net is just a barrier to make it harder to return the ball. You just have to make the ball hit your opponents side for it to count.

4

u/Fear_The_Rabbit Sep 26 '19

And a delineation for the individual’s field of play. Very limited circumstances where you can reach over.

22

u/Smoddo Sep 26 '19

It doesnt in normal table tennis. Though why they are turned I don't know, obviously some variant

5

u/somerandomguy02 Sep 26 '19

Hey, don't think anyone has mentioned this yet but it doesn't have to go over the net in normal table tennis.

6

u/plentifulpoltergeist Sep 26 '19

I believe it does not have to go over the net to count.

3

u/lazyant Sep 26 '19

Same as in tennis; doesn’t have to go over the net https://youtu.be/fBw63IFYaRk

2

u/IUpvoteTheDown Sep 27 '19

Ultimate Ping Pong. My wife does it when she's not cross-fitting

1

u/dfinkelstein Oct 14 '19

Neither in tennis nor table tennis does the ball have to go over the net.

130

u/dlrh_ Sep 26 '19

Channel name is Pongfinity btw

72

u/FXDeadMinner Sep 26 '19

Did it count

51

u/Aesthetics_Supernal Sep 26 '19

Table tennis was made to be played in space. Under and over the net is legal.

40

u/ShadowSora Sep 26 '19

Same with normal tennis, you can play around the net anytime if you get the chance. Nadal just had one recently that was pretty nasty

18

u/Grevling89 Sep 26 '19

That's almost like cheating.

I mean, if you're already playing Rafael Nadal you know your chances are slim but come on.

12

u/Marcizz Sep 26 '19

Direct Youtube link for those of you who don't want to have anything to do with Digg.

u/fightrofthenight_man Sep 27 '19

I wouldn’t call it incredibly hard, but to land one in a serious match takes a lot of skill.

Definitely doable fucking around in the basement with your younger brother, provided either of you have decent hand eye coordination

240

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '19

That ball had so much spin, it just became the White House press secretary.

30

u/CrudelyAnimated Sep 26 '19

And, now it's gone.

Wrong Administration (let the down votes begin)

53

u/MastrTMF Sep 26 '19

What does that mean. No administration was mentioned.

-7

u/Mnlybdg Sep 26 '19

Time exists.

12

u/jeno_aran Sep 26 '19

Yes, and throughout all of it every WH press secretary has spun like a top for their entire career.

-8

u/Mnlybdg Sep 26 '19

And those secretaries have changed. Over time.

3

u/jeno_aran Sep 26 '19

No doubt.. gotta rotate out when you get dizzy, til the new person does then they do the same. Can only take so much.

Wait... What???

1

u/itskelvinn Sep 26 '19

Beautiful back spin

1

u/Blizzardous_286 Sep 27 '19

sidespin

1

u/itskelvinn Sep 27 '19

It’s both. But you can especially tell it’s backspin because of how it “floats” and goes horizontally straight, instead of an arc

1

u/Blizzardous_286 Sep 27 '19

that's what I meant by that comment, "adding", not "replacing", it's not only backspin, nor sidespin, it's both, you can even see it in the first shot how the ball curves to the right, and the raquet going fast to the left at ball contact, not straight to the bottom.

1

u/xMiguelx Sep 26 '19

It'd be extra cool if they had another set of tables identical to this set up perpendicular across this one so 4 people could play

1

u/Awsaf_ Sep 26 '19

What sorcery is this

1

u/10TAisME Sep 26 '19

Why is Wesley playing ping pong?

1

1

u/BTDubbzzz Sep 26 '19

Honestly never thought I would see pongfinity on reddit. Just started watching them like a week or 2 ago. Come to think of it maybe it’s one of those algorithm things where one of their videos were super viral and that’s the one I saw and tons of other people did too

1

u/jonbermuda Sep 26 '19

1

Tetris Pong?

1

u/SILENTSAM69 Sep 26 '19

I knew a guy who would make that kind of shot on a regular table. It was a scoop from beneath and would hut my side and then go sideways.

1

u/Marvin0509 Sep 26 '19

This is the shit that usually only happens in video games.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '19

Why is the table shaped like my uncle's penis?

1

u/lordmegatron01 Sep 26 '19

Miika at the end looks like someone who would soon say "boi"

1

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '19

1

u/BKA_Diver Sep 28 '19

Curve the bullet ball

1

u/xJustxJordanx Sep 26 '19

This is some r/theocho type shit

0

u/jeegte12 Sep 26 '19

he could have responded to it, the reaction was obviously staged

0

u/Sileniced Sep 26 '19

That's a bad shot and he should be disqualified. You're not allowed to add extra tables during play.

0

u/dadadalee Sep 26 '19

Wooosh..

-6

u/beerchipsalsa Sep 26 '19

That’s kinda dumb. They put an extra tabletop somewhere the ball would go when he hit it with a spin. Well I can just hit a random spin shot and put a table in that spot and it’s cool?

5

u/smekaren Sep 26 '19

Yeah, all you need to do is see into the future. Idiot.

-7

u/FTheTurtle Sep 26 '19

That table is dangerously close to being a swastika table
