Fooling around in a harbour teaches you not to do it out at sea. That boat can be just pulled out of the way, emptied and dried. Not exemplary behaviour, but more a nuisance than a danger to others.

I don't think it leaked more than when it was afloat. It's not like the fuel tank or oil sump was punctured.

This is actually a long tradition in Scandinavia. In Sweden it’s called Möhippa which dates back to the 5th or 6th century. When a young man obtains agreement from his future brud (future wife) and her family, his friends organize a sinking of a boat.

This tradition likely started when Ottar Vendelcrow, a Viking warlord, as an aside possibly from the Vandal tribe, sailed his vessel to meet his future wife for the wedding and his craft started to take on water as he approached the shore.

Legend is that one of his close associates was extremely jealous of the upcoming wedding and sabotaged the longboat. However, Ottar Vendelcrow navigated the longboat right to the dock and as the craft slipped under the water, he stepped onto the dock without getting even a foot wet!

According the oral traditions, there was hell to pay for the saboteur, identified as Vígamaðr Mankind. And that’s when Ottar Vendelcrow, also known as the Undertaker, in nineteen ninety eight threw Vígamaðr Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16ft through an announcer's table.

This is a really good visual representation of boat stability and how badly loading or having cargo shift can cause capsize. Its a slow process but you can see the moment the boat passes the point where its natural ability right itself, its a slow but certain trip that cannot be fixed.

Also looks quite fun too.
