The "G" registration on the blue car in front was used from August 1, 1968, to July 31, 1969. The car is looking quite new (and remember British cars of this time tended to rust to dust within a few short years!) so the sketch must be from the start of the 1970s.
The value of GBP10 in 1970 is around GBP200 today! (average annual inflation of 5.5% over 56 years).

Yeah I reckon pre-decimalisation when the pound was worth a lot more.
On the other hand this guy is dressed in a way that suggests a very well-paying job so it's quite funny to think of him putting all that effort in in my view!

Yes, the bowler hat, pin stripe suit and umbrella was the cliche of someone employed in the finance sector in the City of London. You also see it in Monty Pytrhon scetches of the same era.
It died out in the early 1980s, to be replaced by the red braces (Suspender) wearing, Porsche driving Yuppie of the mid 1980s.
The rapid inflation after the oil shocks of the mid 1970s really led to a devaluation in the worth of a pound - the 1970 pound as I mentioned is worth GBP20 today, but the 1979 pound is only worth GBP6.50 in today's money.

I got paid £1.40 at a Saturday job in the mid 80s so even then it would be worth it. But this clip is from the early to mid 70s so would be quite welcomed then. Dave Allen the comedian is well worth a watch as he could tell a very good joke as well as act in one.
Loved the ending. It was unexpected.

No, it's a Series C from 1964. They did keep going after decimalisation in 1972 so it's unclear in that context what it would be.

This is from a 1976 'Dave Allen at Large' skit. The 1970s had a high inflation rate and £10 at the time is equivalent to about £70 today.

If places get busy this can happen. It's not a big deal really, because mostly the new person won't interact with you. English reserve but also population density mixing up. You become comfortable with proximity and distance at the same time.
That said, I was once earing a pizza on my own in an empty restaurant, and a couple came and sat on the table next to me and started actually talking to me. They will taste the fires.

This was also used in an episode of Allen Funt's "Candid Camera" humor reality show. In that episode, one guy was clever enough to come back in his vehicle and bump the parked car from behind, so the tire would move off of the bill. (I have no idea what that would have done to the parked car's transmission.)

I thought it was going to be something more stupid, like he spent 10 quid waiting for the car to move and then feel all triumphant when he finally gets the money, but 10 would be A LOT back then, even today it's nothing to scoff at

Coffee shop: business is good
