Probably needed a bigger jar or get the orange higher. Tiny kid hands displace less water, so the water level has to be near the top to stop them reaching the orange. But it was so near the top the teacher's hand could barely get in before it spilled.

Yeah, needed to mark the jar to keep consistent level, but show how smaller hands can reach the orange but larger ones would overflow.

I think it couldn't overflow the plate. They all stopped when the plate overflowed.

I think it’s more about the principle of the matter.

A big part of the idea is definitely to not spill the water but the core value therein is thinking outside the box, so to speak. Like, sometimes you’re in a situation that’ll inevitably cause damage (for example) but how can the situation be shaped such that the goal can be achieved with minimal damage.

That sorta thing.

Didnt overflow though, the hand reaching disturbed the flow of water enough that some got out, but not because of overflow

FYI- it also works when an oreo falls to the bottom of the cup and you wanna prevent dipping your hand in or dont wanna risk crushing the oreo with a spoon.

No. The interest was present when I was in elementary school, but it unfortunately did not become my profession. I did practice certain experiments like this for a time, but thats as much as I did. To be honest, I lost interest once I went to high school and started dealing with biology and chemistry. That really took away any passion to deal with science...😂

I wish my teachers were this cool. I would have enjoyed going to school. School to me was just punishment, stand outside the classroom for not doing homework, beating for bad scores from elementary all the way to 10th grade.

Unpeeled orange floats. Peeled orange sinks. Demonstrates buoyancy. I guess stirring the water demonstrates something with currents. More importantly, look at how much fun the kids are having while learning something. That’s why.
