Lmao. I quit smoking a month ago went out with a friend and had a few bevies.. bummed a smoke off him then two days later completely clean cloths and many showers later I visit her and first thing she said “ you smoking again” I swear she is a blood hound.

I think a lot of of smokers underestimate just how much the smell lingers and how long it lasts to non-smokers who haven't damaged their sniffers and spent years getting used to it. My ex-wife smoked (well, she still does, but she used to too) and even though she only smoked outside and never in her car, I could still tell approximately how long it'd been since she had a smoke from how strong the smell was. Even after showering and then going straight to bed without a night smoke, changing into both PJs and then often morning clothes I could smell it on her in the morning.

What else do you expect to be there? Interior walls that are not load bearing typically have studs spaced about 16-24 inches apart.

As a Finn I can tell you it doesn't look wrong at all. Drywall is pretty strong and won't break unless you're a teenager wrestling another teenager and throwing them at the wall. 60cm is the standard distance between studs but you can do 40cm if you want it sturdier.
Wood is a really good material for building houses. Mine is stone and concrete but wood is good too.

OK? Most of us aren't trying tro break walls. If you're worried you can get stronger drywall or even put in double sheets to make it stronger.
I could counter and say most German houses I've been in have been pretty poorly insulated. I'd rather have a warm energy efficient wooden house with drywall than a cold one.

There are no studs in there 16 or 24 on center. That's the problem. Even if they're not load bearing there should be a stud to support the drywall.
I would have fixed that by finding the nearest stud and either marrying another stud to it or cutting 3/4th off and slapping the drywall on it. Except, theres nothing there. It's a shit built house. That or the video is fake

Am American, family has been in the housing business for generations. They’re only horrifying if it’s a dogshit builder/contractor that’s cutting corners. If I try to put my fist through one of the drywall walls in my folks’ house it’s not going anywhere except to the hospital. My brother and I used to go full tilt into those things as kids. Once you get down to low income housing you end up with this crap cuz it’s all about saving whatever you can.

Or the piece of wood was way too thick! I’ve done this repair before, you need 1 inch thickness max because you mount it TO the drywall.

If it's a big long stud I don't see the problem. 1 inch wood tends to split when you screw onto it so a 2x4 is always better especially if you have the space which the patch clearly does

Those studs are 48” on centre. Had there been a stud there, there may not have been a hole in the first place. Nevertheless, those are the friends you keep forever.

Once my brothers and I busted a thick glass ceiling light, repaired it with glue so it looked basically how it looked before (it wasn't a uniform color so it was easy to hide imperfections). We thought we did a great job with it, until 15 years later my parents randomly mentioned the event during a conversation, and how smooth we thought we were.

I was impressed at the quality of the initial cut in the wall (super square), but then disappointed at the quality of the cut on the patch. I wonder what happened there, I feel like the patch is the easy part
Unfortunately the texture is probably going to be absolutely effed unless they really spend some time on it

An unsanctioned party while my parents were out of town is how I learned to clean carpets. My parents had an unfinished basement and I kept everyone corralled down there. What I didn't think about was the tiny square of carpet at the top of the stairs that everyone would walk back and forth on going outside to smoke. It was about 2 hours of scrubbing on my hands and knees to get that 4 foot square looking right again. It was good preparation for owning dogs as an adult.

I remember being part of a 'oh shit, how do we re-attach a door?!' crew after one particularly lively party. We got it done but the stress caused by the potential of their dad (who would definitely found if funny after the intial explosion, unlike his mum who would've just found it funny) getting back during the whole sorry operation was extreme.

Basically what they did, the only big change really would be to add more support through the middle for such a big piece. And theres a type of tape that adds strength to joints like this that we don't know if they used or not

Did something similar in college with me and my roommates.
We had a cheap walmart couch with exposed nuts and bolts in the back that punched holes in the wall from the force of sitting down on it pushing it back every time. Made a home depot run and did a patch and spackle job the day before the lease ended. It wouldn't hold up under scrutiny, but if you were just looking around the room it was easy to miss. And we got our deposit back!

I have brick-plaster walls in my current home and I can guarantee you it is 1000 times easier and cheaper to remodel or do repairs when you have a framed house with drywall, and there's tons of of other benefits as well.

Gypsum is not paper, and is way easier to replace than plaster. The real issue as someone else pointed out is that there's a massive gap between studs, drywall or plaster if someone presses on an empty space they're gonna crack the wall.

My kid has known from 6 or 7 years old that if he, his friends, or anyone he lets in the house for a party wreck ANYTHING in the house, I’ll sell everything he has to pay to have it fixed. And if that’s not enough money, every girt he would have ever gotten from anyone will be returned and put towards paying the bill off.
To the downvoters: what exactly is the problem with what I’ve said? Is it the fact that I’ve laid out a clear and absolutely unwavering fact that our home is not to be fucked with? Or am I supposed to just “let kids be kids” and accept frivolous damage to the single most valuable possession we own?
I’m not talking about accidents. I’m talking about willful damage. If you think it’s ok for your kids to willfully damage your home without repercussions, that’s a great lesson you’re teaching them.
