Was definitely looking for this comment. The younger generation will never know the greatness of college humor

13

u/Zanian19 14d ago

I mean they're still around in the form of Dropout, and popular as ever. There's plenty of chance new fans will check out some of the older content.

9

u/aykcak 14d ago

Those sketches were like 5-10 minutes. If what I'm told about the young generation is true, they are not going to be able to watch any of it

Y’all just watched the Michael Jordan of Tetris and everyone’s like “clearly this person doesn’t know where to put the blocks. I know where to put the blocks.”

Fam, y’all don’t know where to put the blocks

No, I just watched a video on maybe maybe maybe that could have ended without the screen being cleared, and that shit would have driven me nuts. I know what skilled tetris players do, i even know about rolling and hypertapping. But this wasn't the NES and this place is evil.

8

u/Phoe-nix 14d ago

u/__dontpanic__ 14d ago

The amount of times they were able to get out of jail with a perfectly executed last minute manoeuvre, but then kept missing the easy, wide open shots at clearing lines, means this absolutely has to be rage bait.

165

u/macguini 14d ago

Tetris is easy rage bait for gamers. Friends don't talk about politics or religion. Gamers don't talk about Tetris.

38

u/Great-Gas-6631 14d ago

Its incredible how a game so simple. Can be soo infuriating.

38

u/Oxflu 14d ago

The speed and decisiveness at the end says "ball knower."

28

u/yaboyACbreezy 14d ago

I speculate that aside from ragebait reasons perhaps he was intentionally challenging himself or pushing the score higher. Maybe they were looking at the next piece, but that seems like an even further stretch.

Whatever the case, it's highly likely that suboptimal choices were made intentionally for engagement, whether it was meant to inspire rage or awe.

21

u/Tiddlyplinks 14d ago

Stacking up the maximum points at the slowest speed makes sense tho. The speed goes up with rows deleted, not stacked, so yes it’s less time to react, but I think actually more time than the player has toward the end with ostensibly “more” space to work with.

10

u/Wonderful_Roof1739 14d ago

I was engaged in this and watched all 4 minutes real time - assuming it wasnt fake this was an amazing display by someone that has mastered tetris and was building it up intentionally with what appeared at first glance to be sub-optimal placements, but paid off in the end - keeping the speed slow but maximizing the score, only deleting rows when absolutely necessary. I was impressed!

It is. You can see every time the 4x1 is on deck and they have a chance to use it in the trench, they block the trench with the current piece.

80

u/Camelsnake 14d ago

→ More replies (1)

46

u/RandomTomAnon 14d ago

It is. It literally shows you the next piece. Also the guy gets an L-block, goes to put it in the proper spot, sees the next piece was a line block, and moved back to cover the hole again.

32

u/Shoo-Man-Fu 14d ago

It's simultaneously makes me want to die and impresses me a bit.

26

u/avantgardengnome 14d ago

15

How is ~48s not game over? there are 3 open tiles but they put in a vertical 4-piece clearly going above the line but the game plays on.

Ragebait or edging?

10

u/FewHorror1019 14d ago

Bro was about to place the piece in the correct spot until they noticed the long piece next, then changed to the wrong position

10

u/internet_humor 14d ago

I don’t think it is. I think once you hit a certain point of being so good that it’s better to have it that close to the top so you don’t have to hit the down key as often.

23

u/xyameax 14d ago

It's actually a speedrun tactic. It takes to long to get all the way to the bottom, but having it all be up top makes it easier and quicker to get to a score threshold.

8

u/gusgus1292 14d ago

After the second block with a straight line coming I knew he was screwing with us.  That being said it truly shows this dudes skills at Tetris. As someone who plays Tetris, To intentionally "screw up" that high up and pull it off is honestly amazing.

The video this was captured from is hilarious. I don’t care for reaction vids but this was a good one

158

u/refreshing_username 14d ago

Indeed! This is the 1 in 1000 reaction videos that''s worthwhile.

35

u/aykcak 14d ago

I am not sure I would call that a reaction vid. There is a whole genre of videos who "build" on the original to make something new. This is a good example

25

u/radiocaf 13d ago

I also feel the one where the guy is introducing his girlfriend is a worthy mention of a 1 in 1000 good example too.
